Cunningham clobbers Clarks Branch MX By Clay Light ROSEBURG, OR, NOV. 23 Curt Cunningham clobbered two classes at the second race of the Clarks Banch Motocross Winter Series in Roseburg to- 30 day. Cunningham walked away with four moto wins, winning the l25cc Intermediate and 250cc Intermediate events with I-I sweeps while Scott White did Likewise in the day's largest class, the l25cc Junior division. In the first I25cc Intermediate runoff it was Cunningham and local speedster Monty Spalding holding down the top two positions on a wellgroomed track ahead of Team Green's Jeff Daily, which was the final finish: ing order. Moto two was a Kawasaki sweep of the top two positions as well as in the overall which read; Cunningham first over Daily (3-2) and Spalding (2-3). Cunningham was also busy out front in the first 250cc Intermediate clash while Honda-mounted Ron Milligan and Aaron Boehmer dueled for runner-up honors. Milligan got the nod (or the position in both motos to net second behind Cunningham's flawless I-I score with Boehmer taking home third via 3-3 rides. Kyle Brooks was White's main competition in the l25cc Junior class. Brooks, White and Curt Moussa logged the top three spots in the first moto with White coming out on top after eight tough laps. Moto two had White, Brooks, Moussa and Kawasaki pilot Shane Traetaw holding down the top spots and it was White again putting in a superb ride that would land the KX jockey a second moto win and a I-I tally at the completion followed by Brooks, Traetow and Moussa. The 250cc Junior class was also qui te large and consistency paid off for Honda speedster Alan McComb. McComb trailed Mike Wilkinson in the second outing and thus earned the overall with 2-2 rides to edge second moto winner Wilkinson's 4-1 tally. Third in both motos was Scott. Lewis, breaking a tie with Luke Jacobson, who went 1-5. Rod Nordstrom was one of several Californians to make the trek northward to Roseburg, and earned top brass in the 30-40 class after beating Steve Agee and Doug McLean, both on Hondas. Californians Brad Johnson and Yamaha pilot Tim PhiHis came up from the Eureka area and finished 1-2 in the combined Pro cla~s. Results PRO: 1. OMRRA fetes season winners By Russ Cazier PORTLAND, OR, NOV. 22 The Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association held it annual awards banquet in the ExecuLodge near Portland International Airport to accommodate the many out of town race.rs who collected season points in the 1986 racing season. Unwise bets wereruefuJly paid and gleefully collected during the cocktail hour and the trophies, spread along tables covering an entire wall, were admired. After a splendid dinner, a new season high point rider was crowned. Keith Pinkstaff finally displaced Mike Johnson who had held the OMRRA number one pLate for two consecutive years. Racers received plaques and gave thanks to their sponsors and, invariably,to the club workers who made it all happen. By unanimous voice vote, the'scorers for OMRRA, headed by Mike Phillips, were selected for the year-end photo to accompany this report. , Later came dancing and serious socializing. Rentzell and Barry star at Tampa ,Fairgrounds RR ~y Derryl Anderson RIDGEFIELD, WA, NOV. 14 'By Jack Roe Darell Davis took home first place money in both the 250cc and Open Pro classes at the short track held at the Clark Two nationally known riders, Glen Barry and Kevin RentzeIl, made round seven of the Florida Gran Prix Riders Association's' Counry Fairgrounds tonight. A large number o(riders, including four Californians, showed up to ride the opening race of the indoor season. The long indoor track was in good shape and held up well. In the first 250cc Pro heat race, Davis got the scratch and went wireto-wire with an eventual 30-yard lead. Behind him off the line were Speedy Carver, Tom Newman, Paul Newman and Dan Dickinson. Paul passed brother Tom for third and Dickinson passed Tom Newman just before the white flag came out. At the flag the order was unchan~ed. Matt Holden got the holeshot in the other heat race but Canadian rocket Steve Aseltine soon displaced him and left him to battle with Eddie Gerrish and Tricia Lyons. In the main, Davis got the lead once again followed by Aseltine, Carver, Gerrish and the others. Davis looked great as he pulled a 2Q-yard lead on the rest of the freight train. At the end it was Davis, Aseltine, Carver, Gerrish, Holden, Paul Newman, Lyons, Tom Newman and Dickinson. In the first Open Pro heat race, Davis went all the way out front while P.]. Sanchez and Ron Adams battled back and forth with Sanchez finally getting second. Behind them were Rex Fisher and Aaron Waggoner. Aseltine won a hot second heat race ahead of scrappy Todd Bridges, Garth Mulkey and Dean Autrey. Mickey Fay won the third heat race, ahead of Tom Newman, Sanchez and Jim Perry. In the main event Bridges got the scratch followed by Davis, Aseltine, Sanchez, Johnson and the others. Fay was starting a run at the leaders when his engine went SOUT. Meanwhile, season at the Tampa Fairgrounds the most exciting event of the season. Clearly, Barry, aboard the Honda of Barstow-sponsored HRC 750cc Superbike, and Rentzell, on his KaYl? Corp.lYokohama/DID/Shoei-sponsored Yamaha FZ600 knew the fast way around the tight course. At the start of the Endurance race, they quickly separated themselves from the rest of the pack of 42 riders entered. Rentzell led throughout with Barry close behind until Glen crashed midway through the event. After that, Rentzell's lead was never in question. ' He took first overall and first in Class 3. Jerry Cook, on his Suzuki of Tampa-sponsored GSXRllOO had a strong showing finishing second overall and first in Class 5. At the start of the Sprint races, Yokohama Tires offered a set of their new track compound production tires to the winner of the Expert event in Class 3 Production. Jerry Brown took home the first place trophy and the pair of Yokohama Tires. Rentzell showed the talent that has led to his oustanding year in road racing as he thoroughly dominated the Cafe 3, and GP 3 Expert races, with easy victories, wheelieing at will, and pleasing the crowd. In the GP 4 race, it was Rentzell aboard his Suzuki GSXRlLOO versus Barry on the HRC Honda 750cc Superbike. Barry took the first place win with Rentzell close behind. Revenge was Rentzell's in the Cafe 4 and 5 heat, with RentzeJl finishing first overall and first in Cafe 5. Barry took second_overall and gathered a first in Cafe 4 Expert.
