TEri YEARS AGO The $2000 AMA indoor short track held in DeLroit's State Fair Coliseum saw Randy Goss, Garth Brow and Steve Elo take the top three Expert places while Bob Decker topped the ovice final. The Trans- USA Series ended in Phoenix, Arizona with Americans Bob Hannah, Gaylon Mosier andTorrnny Croft taking the top three positions in the final race. Hannah put together a 1-2 tally to top. Mosier's 2-3 and Croft's 9-1. The final standings, however, had Roger DeCoster on top followed by Brad Lackey and Jimmy Weinert. In the 250cc Support class, Rich Eierstedt beat Danny LaPorte and John Savitski to take the championship. Larry Roeseler won the Adelanto Grand Prix in Adelanto, California on his 360cc Husqvama after inheriting the lead from Goat Breker. Breker led early until his bike seized. Second place went to Max Eddy with Morgan Malocco rounding out the top three. The Lester Wheels endurance team of Lang Hindle, Frank Mrazek, Derek Mitchell and Denny Laidig survived freezing cold and wind swept sandstorms to win the WERA 24-hour endurance race at the Las Vegas Speedrome. In sprint racing action, David Erode won every class he entered with wins coming in the 250, 500cc and Open GP classes. Tony Murphy won the 750cc Cafe class and the 750cc Production class. One of the changes that came during the FIM Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, was the changing of the point scoring format in World Championship events. Beginning in 1977 all events within the series would count toward the final standings; previously a half-plus-one formula was used.
