In the 250cc final Jimmy Higuera didn't get to figure into theresulLs [or he crashed early and got a D IF on the evenlng. Kendel Grove was trying to put his Kawasakj imo position to capture the lead if Smith were to make a misLake. In some prior evems Smith has gOllen imo a comer too hot and hit the dirt but ucb an error was not in the cards [or this evening. In the 500cc final, Smith was able to u e the same plan and style to gain the same r suit but he had a tougher time with challenger Danny Cahoon and his Honda than he did in the quarter-liter [inal. When the checkers came out it was Smith the winner by about a haH a bike length over Cahoon. Braggbags KentwoodHS ,By Karen Kemp KENTWOOD, LA, NOV. 9 Open Expert class winner David Bragg turned the fastest lap time at the sixth and final round of the Louisiana State Hare Scramble Championship Series. Kawasaki-mounted Bragg had over one minute on the second best time which was logged by Yamaha rider Jef[ Plunkett. Plunkell won the AA Expert class with Roger Bailey a close second aboard his Honda. Plunkell said, "I had a bad day, I kept falling too much." Plunkett took the lead from Bailey at the end of their fourth and final lap on the I 1mile course. The Louisiana Trail Riders Associ· ation could not have had better weather and cour e conditions for the 94 riders that showed up after rain had covered most of the state. The trails were perfect except for a couple of slick spots and about three mud holes that were easily passable. At the end of the race day, series final poims Landings had been tallied and the awards ceremony [or the Louisiana Slate Champions was held. The champ in each class received a bea'utiful blue satin jacket and a plaque for their achievement. Second and third place finishers received jackets. While final point standings were being tallied, a drawing [or door prizes was held. Local motorcycle shops donated these prizes and their contributions were greatly appreciated.
