Voices (Continued from page 4) guilt tripped' by the pedagogy of the Mr. Holemans of this world! Motorcycling, as a sport and a business, is taking responsibility for the future, and if part of that is to face up to censure by those who see us from the outside, whether it is movie makers, environmental groups or politicians, so be it. I want to be one of those who will be seen as someone looking for rational solutions, trying to encourage a mature image, confident that we have all the resources to resolve our problems. I do not believe we need to alienate all those around us by an ill-mannered display of verbal bullying. RICHARD HAZZARD Cycle Stop Hacienda Heights, CA Get involved Dave Holeman's guest editorial in the November 26/December 10 issue was one of the best pieces that I have read about Senator Alan Cranston in any publication. I too have been fighting Senator Cranston and his Senate Bill 2061 for the past year. I started my subscription to Cycle News because of your articles about the future of off-roading. It is very hard for me to believe that other off-road publications are not concerned enough to inform the off-road public about such current events. You can bet that I will never buy a copy of California Magazine. Why would anyone read such a magazine that would wish "death wishes" to its readers. Mr. Holeman has covered aU of the bases in his well written editorial. Now is the time to get involved in the future of off-roading. Please send your letters to Senator Alan Cranston and other elected officials in your area or state. Tell them that you oppose SB206l and other "anti- offroad bills." If you do not have the time for this, please support the offroad groups that are fighting for your rights. Joina group like theAMA, U4WDA (V nited 4-Wheel Drive Association), CORVA (California Off-Road Vehicle Association), or CA4WDC (California Association of 4-Wheel Drive Clubs). The people in these groups are fighting for you so that you can use your oU-road vehicles. Write to these groups and tell them about your concerns so that they may serve you better. In concl us ion, I would like to thank Cycle News for their support and Mr. Holeman for his fine editorial. I voted against Senator Alan Cranston. How about you? KENNY GROBE Los Angeles, CA More results I'm writing to express my disappointment in your Regional Championship and local pro dirt track coverage this season, I'm particularly frustrated with the results at the bottom of the article only listing the top three finishers. With riders competing in the aforementioned races from Prince Edward Island, Canada (practically Newfoundland), to southern California, and Expert finals made up nearly, or often entirely of National numbers more coverage is certainly warranted. I've been reading Cycle News since the early '70s but you don't have to go back that far to get full page, sometimes more, coverage of Regional and even local pro dirt track events. I realize the consolidation may make space conservation more critical and full page write-ups impossible and if that's the case, so be it. We'll have to settle for a column and a half. But with club level road races and some amateur MX results often taking up 50 some odd lines listing top three finishers in sometimes 30 different classes, a full results listing of three classes con taiDing 10 to 12 riders, for pro dirt track races of this caliber, is still an awfully modest request. ALLEN DILLMER Lima,OH We have several format changes set to debut at the start of 1987, A lien, and we'll certainly consider your request, at least as far as Regional C hampionship events are concerned . .. Editor. Dear Husqvarna employees. dealers and customers: For the past 12 years I have enjoyed a very satisfying and rewarding association with Husqvarna motorcycles. However, on November 14 I resigned my position as National Sales Manager for Husqvarna's V.S. distributor, Cagiva North America. Since I am no longer officially connected to Husqvarna (except as a contracted rider through the end of the year) I want to express my sincerest appreciation to the people I have met as a result of my affiliation with Husqvarna for their contribution to my personal growth and development. To all past and present Husqvarna employees: I am exuemely grateful for the privilege to have known and worked with each of you. In particular, I appreciate the advice, encouragement, constructive criticism and opportunity I received from such Husqvama personnel as Rolf TibbIin, Dean Goldsmith, Niles Vssery, Bob Popiel, Rich Morgan, Jim McIlvain, Dick Burleson and Mark Blackwell. To all Husqvarna dealers: The cooperation, support and viewpoint you offered me as a member of Husky's management team will always be valued. I am very fortunate to have worked with such a dedicated, enthusiastic and hard-working group of individuals. I wish you continued success. To Husqvarna customers and supporters: I am forever in your debt for allowing me the opportunity to work fora company like Husqvarna. Without your patronage and support of the product, my career at Husqvama would not have been. I especially wish to acknowledge the unselfish efforts of Dick Phares and the Husky pit crews as none of my 17. major off-road victories could have been achieved without your assistance. Finally, my most heartfelt thanks goes to a trusted companion that has served me well for the last 12 years, the Husqvarna motorcycle. From the age of 14 when I first saw "On Any Sunday" with its vivid images of H usqvarnas being used to their fullest by men like Bengt Aberg, IN. Roberts, Steve McQueen and Malcolm Smith, I dreamed that some day I too might in some way contribute to Husky's legacy. Well, with the support of my family and the guidance of my close friend, Casey Folks, I was able to realize my boyhood dream. Now it is time for me to set new goals and a new direction. I wish Husqvarna and its new owners, Cagiva Motor Italia, the best of luck in their future together. I sincerely hope that the Husqvarna name will continue on for a long time to come, so that other l4-year-old boys ca'n fashion their own fantasies about riding and racing a legend.
