Lojak was the first rider through the barrels on lap one, but was closely pursued by Honda rider Richard Kresik, Bob Elliot and Duane Conner. On the second lap Conner had worked his way into first place, with Lojak, Kresik and Elliot in tow. Coming around on lap three it was Lojak back out front with Conner a close second. Kresik and Elliot had fallen behind the leaders, but were having a good battle for third. By the end of the race Lojak had stretched out a lead of nearly 10 minutes over Conner, while Conner had a five· minute cushion on Kresik and Elliot in third and fourth positions respectively. There was also a good battle in the 200cc A class between Yamaha rider Donald Bigley, David FaJlas and Mark Siford. On the first lap it was Kawa· saki-mounted Fallas out front with Bigley in second and Siford right behind the leaders. On the second lap Bigley had crashed in a creek section of the course and had to stop in the pits to change into dry clothes. With Bigley in the pits, Fallas was able to build up a five minute Iead. Several laps later Bigley had charged back up to second place and was gaining on the leader, Fallas. With three laps to go Bigley had caught and passed FaJlas and took over the top spot in the class. At the start of the last lap Bigley came around first, about two minutes ahead of Fallas, but with a fIat rear tire. At the finish it was Bigley who blasted through the barrels first, de· spite the fIat tire, to score the class victory. FaJlas had to settle for second and Siford took third. Kurt Bowman dominated the Open A class aboard his KTM 350. Charles Hugel battled wtih Husqvarna rider Mark Shuba for second for a few laps, but Shuba dropped out with mechan· ical problems. Steve Zatezalo main· tained a consistent third behind Hugel after Shuba dropped out. The final order was Bowman first, Hugel second and Zatezalo third. Results 200 A: Donald Bigley (Yem); 2. Dorshug, Dries top Broome-Tioga MX By Thom Veety STROUDSBURG, PA, OCT. 25-26 Freezing temperatures and a strong wind greeted over 500 motocross riders as they arrived at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center for the annual two·day K&H Kawasaki New York State Championships. Henry "City 'Boy" Dorshug and Mike Dries each won both of their heats in the two l25ccArnateurquaIi· fiers, with the top 20 from each heat going to Sunday's final forthe overall. The final on Sunday saw Dries taking the early lead with Dorshug's Kawasaki stuck in a fence 200 yards from the start. Dorshug got going on the final moto half a lap down on the 40-rider field. Dries led from start-IO' finish for the championship, but it was Dorshug's ride from dead last to a seventh·place finish that was most impressive. Dorshug's seventh was good enough to give the l5-year·old second overall, with Team Green's Tim Lemire taking third ahead of Todd Towend, Dave Perone and Bruce SLratton. Dorshug finishing out his amateur career took his Kawasaki to 1-3-2 finishes in the Schoolboy class to take the class title, ahead of Larry Maxwell, Steve Herman, Bruce Stratton, Jeff Robinson and Joe Montrella. Sunday's l25cc Expert action had Honda-mounted Rick Pinney in the lead followed closely by newly-signed Kawasaki support rider Chris Coleman, Brad King, SteVe Hess and Kurt McMillen. Coleman and Pinney went wheel-to·wheel·the whole moto with Coleman finally getting his Kawasaki around Pinney on the last lap for the moto win. McMillen followed in third with King, Tim Brill and Hess rounding out the top six. Steve Hess grabbed the holeshot in· moto two with Pinney second closely followed by King, Chris Shipclark and Brill. Coleman and McMillen were midpack following a big pileup over the first jump. Hess held his lead for a wire·ta-wire win, with King's second good enough to take the class championship and the winner's share of the $3650 E~pert purse. Pinney's 2-4 finishes gave him second overall ahead of Hess' 6-1, BrilJ's 5-3 and McMillen's 3-7. Kurt McMillen took his Honda into. the early lead in the first 250cc Expert moto and was never challenged, as he rode the very muddy track to a start-ta-finish win over Pinney, King, Shipclark, Carl Vaillancourt and Hess. Mike Franklin grabbed the holeshot in moto two with Pinney second followed by McMillen, Vaillancourt, ShipcJark and Chris Fischer. McMillen passed Pinney to take second on the second lap with Shipc1ark moving into fourth and Fischer fifth. McMillen was handling the mud better than most and took the lead on lap three and ran away from the pack for the win and the overall. Pinney (2-3) took second overall ahead ofSbipclark (4-4), King (3-5), Vaillancourt (5-7) and Matt Drak (7-8). Results 125 EX: 1. Bred King (Han); 2. Rid< Pinney (Honl; 3. Steve Hese (Kew). 250 EX: 1.
