Miller mauls Perris MX By Terry Rezek PERRIS, CA, A sullsct'iption is • boredom prescription. **PARTS** From '6' to Current LARGEST STOCK IN THE EAST UPS DAILY 36 OV.2 CRC went lO the oUlhern reaches of Lheempire for loday's mOlocross - all the way La Perris. A few more mile soulh and Lawrence Welk mighl have en· tered the Vet race. WiLhout old Larry to give him trouble, Vet Expert winner Jon Miller had only LO contend with Terry Davis in his sweep of the Vet moto . At the other end of the age rainbow, perennial Pee Wee A winner Robby Hammond was followed closely by B class winner Jerry Aleman in both motos. Aleman even led briefly in moto one when Hammond stumbled in the first turn. Aleman and Hammond were at it again in the 60cc (0·8) class with Hammond again prevailing. In fact, in moto twO Ham· mond gave 60cc Intermediate class winner Steve Hengeveld a real chal· lenge right to the flag. The word was that in her home state of Washington, there is nOl a separate Women's class and White races as a Novice with the men. Her aggressive riding style kept her within sight of Rice but not in front of her. White still won the Intermediate class with ease. Kelly DoyIe topped the 500cc Novice class from the drop of the moLO one gate. Mike Sullivan got the drop on Doyle in moLO two but Doyle was with him like glue for the entire race. Doyle set up an'd passed Sullivan in the last lap to take the overall win. All the Intermediates and Pro class entrant ran LOgether and some classes were impossible to track. Graziano's Pizza/Led Zepplin-backed Jeff Stan· ford was Out in £rOnl of the 125cc Pro division for both motos and took that prize. Stanford was surprised by Intermediate Scott Murphy who pulled the holeshot in moto two. Stanford soon gOl pasl and Murphy stayed fast to take a two moto weep of the 125cc Intennediate class. Ken Zahrt holed the 250cc start and led for nearly two laps until Kevin Allman pushed him off the track in a super lighl hairpin just before the finish line. Allman took off for the moLO win, while Zahrt spent the rest of the moto trying to shoot the two jumps just before that hairpin. He was obviously thinking of the econd moLO and how he might' turn that LO his advantage. The opportunity never came. Zahrt gOl a terrible start in mOlO two and Allman was out of reach before Zahrt was ou t of the pack. All man took the moto and the overall 250cc Money class.. Results PEE WEE A: 1. Tom Francis sponsored rider logged double moto wins over challengers Darren Gallagher and Matt Arena. In the first moto, Conley and Gal· lagher got into the first corner sideby·side but because of the decreasing radius turn having an inside line advantage, Gallagher, on the outside, had LO back down rather than risk the deep, high berm. The brief opportunity was grasped by Conley and he squirted LO. a six-bike length lead. After the stutter jumps Arena began LO pressure Gallagher and finally got him on the second lap. By lap four Gallagher figured out a passi ng move on Arena and made the pass after the long straightaway a permanem one, but the gap between Gallagher and the Knobby Shop Kawasaki of Conley was too great. The moLO ended with Conley the winner and Gallagher and Arena second and third, respectively. In the second mow Conley again got the better Slan and began his rhythmic disappearing act. Gallagher waited umil mid·moLO before mak· ing his palemed come-from-behind charge. In a low right hander after the finish line and j USl barely into lap four Gallagher made a move around Arena on the outside. Neither rider was moving fast through the turn but somehow they bumped and both went down. Arena was up in flash, extracted his machine from the tangle and was off and running again. Unfortunately, track ide ambulance per onnel us· pected a broken lower leg - the very one Gallagher broke late in ]985. Conley rode (0 a virtually uncontested win with Arena a distant second. In other class action. the 125cc Imennediate motos were exciting. Steve Humer, wa an easy victor in the first moto. He was cha ed to the checkered £Jag by Todd Hicks, a rela· tive newcomer to the I25cc ranks. In their se ond moto, primarily due LO Hi ks concentrated additional effort but secondarily due LO H unter's fatigue, it was Hi k the winner with Titus J. Smith econd. Hunter was third.
