Hancock slides to Calhoun MX win By Jeff Jacobsen In moto two pro Gary Hulse mack his presence known. At the start Hulse grabbed the holeshot and began to stretch his lead. Rabe, too, got inspired and pushed hard behind Hulse. Neither Rabe nor Hulse's success early in the moto discouraged newcomer Wenger; by the time he got around Rabe it was practically a foregone cond usion that Hulse would win the moLO. Rabe finished third in the moto and third oveI:all. Results MINI BEG: 1. Kun Nelson (Vam); 2. Eric Wafford (Hon). MINI JR: 1. Jon Niclau. (Kaw). 125 BEG: ,. Ricky Solano (Hon), 2. Jeff· Darland won his second consecutive overall in the ADRA Desert - Championship with his win in the 10th Annual Vulture Mine 100. Darland dynamite at Vulture Mine 100 By Daryl Drake WICKENBURG, AZ, NOV. 2 Jeff "Dynamite" Darland took his second Consecutive overall win in the ADRA Desert Championship Series and moved into 30 the points lead with a good ride in the 10th Annual VuLture Mine 100. He and his Sunnyslope Honda/Din Unlimited-backed Honda CR500 covered the 125 miles of desert rock and sand in 3:28:22 to average 38.01 mph. "Dusty - real dusty off the start," . said Jeff. "I got the holeshot when alongside comes (Mike) Powers and almost passes me. I held him off and was going pretty good when (Jim) Thompson caught me but ran off the track. We then had a good race and he got out front about halfway around on the second lap. I had lO chase him 'til near the end of the tbird lap when he got a flat. "Then it started raining pretty hard· - but I love the rain - it's better than dustY" laughed Jeff. "It was a fast, rough, good race'" Following Darland by seven minutes was Pat Prosser second Open Expert. Eight minutes later Pat Duncan third Open Expert, rolled in ahead of Gary Tuffin, who earned his third consecutive 250cc Expert win despite a lot of crashing. Rounding out the top five was 250cc Expert Tim Leehe six minutes later. Garth Sweetland, who led the points race for much of the year, was prerunning Baja and so dropped to third in the standings. Ken Asch was off the pace but picked up the 200cc Expert win aboard his Westside Cycle Cagiva. Early leader Thompson was a "DNF, and former points leader Powers was seventh overall after pipe and tire trouble. - In the three-lap division, Clint Stephan overcame a flat tire and a broken rear brake lO take the overall and Open Amateur class wins on his Apache Honda West/USA Sports/ Hallman Racing/Team FOF Honda. "It was pretty hairy in spots where you went from high speed wash to rocky trails. I'd just be sliding along on (he front tirel" commented Stephan. Nevertheless, he averaged 35.75 mph to cover the 93-mile run in 2:16: 10. Open amateur Roger Huffman was next in ahead of Senior Expert winner John Kelley, Senior Expert Boyd Abbott and 250cc Amateur winner Bill Johnson. The 200ccAmateur class winner Jeff Rogers said, "There are a lot of people riding fast out there, but a lot breaking down, too, This is the third race "''lie gotten hailed on and I'm gelting used to it finally."
