Area mOLOrcycie shops and business(~s have sponsored this race annually in memory of Kayne Hix and all proceeds from lhe event are donated LO leukemia research at Duke Medical Center. With Open class contestant Hix taking ~he ove~all win, Leroy Bryant moved mto a first place finish in the Open division with Darrel Bell taking second. It looked like last year's over,i11 winner, joel Baker, was in good shape but he lost the brake adjuster nut on his bi.ke whicll dropped him back LO a third place finish in the 250cc class. Bryan Smilh took the 250cc class win with jon Merrit finishing second. !ormer IS DE rider Gray Leonard blitzed the 200cc class, winning by over 10 minutes on runner-up Jerry Russ. Last ye-ar's class wmner, Charles Langley moved up to finish second. Greg Casler held on LO finish third in the class after breaking a toe and brake pedal on the first lap. Joel Bater (C·A). • PONCA, CITY, OK, NOV. 2 Cold weather didn't chill Yamaha Support rider Dennis Daft as he won the 250cc Pro class and finished second overall in 125cc Pro class at the Ponca City Regional GNC Championships. The first 250cc Pro class maLO saw IYaft take the holeshot with Kawasaki.!TI0unted Denny Stephenson trailing m. second. Daft led the first five laps wllh Stephenson close behind but then Stephenson made his moveover lhe whoops to take the lead and win with Daft having LO seule for second. Daft continued his flawless ride pressing past bolh Smith and Kirk and go.ing on to win Wilh a huge lead. KlTk held off Smith's relentless pursuit to take second. Honda-mounted Dave Hand followed Andrews across lhe line in both motos while his brother Carl had 3-4 mota finishes for lhird overall. Andrews not only scored double mota wins, but was also awarded $50 as he and his Yamaha £lew approximately 75 feet over the sky jump in the track's annual long jump comest. Mi.ni rider Jaso~ Myers topped the 10ngJumpcompeution in his division and Marcus Sellards made it a Yamaha sweep as he lopped lhe Amateur division, sailing just two-feet less than Andrews. With this being the final CRA race of lhe season, all overall class awards had been determined weeks earlier wilh the exception of the 250cc C class. What looked set to be a threeman race for the lille was cut to two when in midseason Rick Boepple broke a leg. With Boepple out, Yamaha of Warr~n's Bob Harrington and Kawasaki nder John Diezic were thecomenders for Lh.e liLle. Going in10 lhe final race, Hamnglon held a slim four-point lead. . Harrington look lhe lead in the fIrst turn in lhe first mota Wilh Boepple, who had relurned LO racing and DiC2ic trailing. The lhree bauled the entire moLO Wilh Boepple scoring the win over Harringlon. The second mota stan was a repeal performance as Harrington grabbed lhe lead off lhe line. Boepple and D.iezic, as in the first mota, were runnmg 2-3. Diezic c10~ in on Boepple and took over second when Boepple slid out. !hen DiC2ic caught and passed Harnngton on the final lap to take the overall win with his 3-1 finishes. Pa/enski, Bainbridge top Ghost RiderEnduro By Larry Langley RANDSBURG, CA, OCT. 19 Team Honda support rider Grant Palenske powered his C~~ Hon~a to the three loop D'ISLTlCt 37 VIctory at the com~ined D-37/Family Racing Associalion Enduro held outside of the old ~ining lawn of Randsburg dropping Just three pomts over three loops to edge out fellow Honda rider Pete Postel. FRA Senior rider john Bainbridge (Yamaha) won the two loop honors dropping just six seconds to beat out 69 other riders who also zeroed the two loops. TheTrainingWheelsM.C.dropped check H from the results due to a large number of riders that got lost before lhecheck. U nfonunately check H was the hardest clreck on the second loop and many more riders zeroed it that would have if the meek would have stayed in. "It was a shame" reponed Anne Crawshaw, club spokesperson, "but It wasn't the riders fault. When they missed a turn due to missin~ arrows, they ended up on CRC nbbon from a previous enduro that. hadn't been stripped yet." . Bill Heyer (Yamaha). a Beginner nder, was the only one loop rider to zero ule loop dropping just 22 seconds for the wm. The first Mini was Kevin Cleland (Yamaha) who beat EVdn Ceverne by 19 seconds for the Mini class honors.
