I am not interested in anyone who just has a couple old bikes they'd like to part out, JUSt bona fide salvage operations and established frame and chassis repair people, . JOHN W, CARR 4409 Vilas Rd. Cottage Grove, WI 53527 Jones and his family. The e people really helped m} spirits. I can 'I waitto get completely healed and get back to racing. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the race in 19 7. AMMY POITER Oklahoma City, OK You're out Qiff Thomas was disqualified at the Johnson. Valley Championship Hare and Hound on October 26 for blatantly exceeding the posted 15 mph speed limit through the pits, not for "riding through the pi ts" as stated in In The Wind in the Novem· bel' 5 issue of Cycle News. When the going gets tough I am writing in response to the recent letter from Roy E, Pool concerning the Caney Creek National Enduro that was put on by the Trail Riders of Houston and their hair· man for the event, Richard Herman. I rode the event incl udi ng the last 26-mile section. It was tough, InIact, it was the toughest section I have ever ridden and one of the toughe t phy i· cal challenges I have ever experienced, which includes 13 year& of riding enduro events and also ompeting in several triathalons. But at no time duringorafter the event did I feel that the organizers purposely tried to" ·top the National riders," as Mr. Pool claims. I would also like to point out that although many good riders were dis· qualified:the final standings were an excelleOi representation of who was riding well that day. A lot of work went into that final section as I am sure that most of it was arrowed on foot. 1 appre iate that effort. It's'll lot e,lsier 10 put on a tim keeping event rather than one t!)at is a challenge_ There are a lot of good riders on good motorcycles and if beG:lme harder each year to put on an event that is a challenge to everyone. The Trail Riders of !-lou ton have every reason to be proud of their first, and hopefully nOI last, alional Enduro. I for one enjoyed it. If you think the I\'alional riders "w ntaway in fru'trationandanger," then you should beat an eveOi where first through fifth are separaled by five seconds. GARY BARR Kingwood, TX When you care enough I'd like to take thi time to thank a few people who showed they cared afler my accident at the yracu e Mile. It really makes you feed good to know people care especially when you're laying in a hospital bed await· ing surgery, and you're 1300 mile from home. I had two screws put in my right ankle and will be in a cast about three months. I'd lik.e to thankTimra lufupand her parents, Bob and Lori Slump; COlt Adams;Randy Texter; Mr, and Mrs. Larry Mohan, who found time to stop by and check up on, me even though their son Scott was in serious condition after a fall of his own atthe Syracuse Mile, I also want to tharrk - Skip Marrett and family, and Ronnie BILL HEALY Referee, 100's M.e. Glendora, .CCA Pro Twins Just read the Battle of The Twins rule changes for 1987 that call for just twodivisions-IOOOccGPand 10000c Modified. Looks like the bovs from the "Mil- waukee Chopper Fa'ctory" must have bought di nnerfor the rules comm ittee. RU S MATSO t. James, FL BoTTwil/ be called Pro Twins in '87 ... Editor. Wild and wooly race In response to two letters on the La Carrera Road Race, you should have run a pictl1re of the Nonon, but the Harley rider's effons houldn't be knocked. Apparently, the Harley is a real handful at lhose speeds, so to stay WFO takes a real iron man. Then, abOUI a Ninja finishing well up: big deal! The Honda 500 rider gets a pat on the back for keeping the old (?) machinery going, bUI it sure is a lot more interesting when a twin or single compf'tes. The latest Cagiva or a '61 G50 - those seem a lot more in keeping with a wild and wooly true road race. BRUCE METCALF Des Plaines, IL Old English crock !f anyone doubts that the motorcycle media is a whore for the Japanese manufacturers, they ha"e on I} to look at your coverage of the La Carrera road race, where "ou failed to show the winning bike or rider, or to see MotoWorld's TV coverage of the sa ille e"en t. MotoWorld (sponsored by Honda and uzuki) not only "covered" the event wir hout showin~a single frame of Fred Eikeror his wlOning Norton, they "covered" the event without mentioning who or what motorcycle had won. I know Nonon hasn't produced a bike in 10 years (rotarys not withstanding) and obviously hasn't spent any money advenising or sponsoring TV shows, but how about you and Larry Maiers giving the same credit and recognition to someone who wins on an old English "crock" that you do to someone who wins on the latest And I guess we're whore to th American motorcycle and autorno bile manufacturers because we ran pictures of a I larley-Davidson and a obt'iously "il/ade in the U..A." stoc car with our coverage of the "runwhat-ya-brung" race. And isn't that pIcture of Wll1ner Fred Eiker accepting III trophy from the event's pI' moters that I see on page two of au La Carrera coverage? , .. Editor. Thanks from National Number 3 I would like to thank the following sponsors for making my season as a privateer possible: Arai, Jack Sisemore, Tsuooki Chain, Trick Racing Gas, Nippondenso, Hi·Point Racing Products, A&:A Racing, Carlisle Tires, Plastic Works, Machine Performance Brakes and Dainese Leathers. There were also a number of pie who made my record 103,6 mph lap at the Springfield Mile possible and the rest of my season memorable. Thanks to Rob Muzzy, Sparky Edmonston, Jerry Smith, Skip and Elaine Marrett, Buddy Robinson, Dale Cline, and my brother Troy who did a great job in what was his first year .on lhe Camel Pro Series circuit.
