Clowers c'airrJs Barona MX win By John Griffin RAMONA, CA, ocr. 19 Tommy Clowers raced to the overall Open class win today at Barona Oaks Motocross. Second wem to Todd Mitchell, who was followed home by Chris Raceles in third. In the first moto, Mitchell took the lead on the first lap and held off Clowers to take the win. The second moto wa different, though, as Clowers took the holeshot with Mitchell close behind. Mitchell fell, letting Clowers pull away to take lheoverall win. The 125c Beginner lass featured some exci ting races as Honda-mounted Leon Longaker used con istent second places to take the overall victory. Action began early in moto one when Kurt Shadof took the lead with Michael Thing in second and Longaker running midpack. Longaker tuned up the gas and moved all the way to second place; Gary Norris claimed the moto win. Longaker immediately grabbed second and held on for the overall victory in moto two. Hand cuffs 'em in Ohio Motocross By Peggy Adamic RAVENNA, OH, ocr. 5 Honda-mounted David Hand rode to the double moto win in the combined 125/250cc/Open A class at Ohio International Raceway today. Kawasaki/Team Green's Dale Spangler and Hand were side-by-side through the first tum after the gate dropped to start the first moto. Spangler pulled ahead of Hand with Yamaha support rider Fred Andrews following the duo. Hand passed Spangler to begin the second lap with Andrews still trailing. With less than a lap to go, Andrews charged passed Spangler, but was unable to catch Hand. ScOlt Haehn finished fourth with Barney Barnett working from his nimh place stan to finish fifth. Hand didn't waste any time in the second moto as he quickly took the lead followed by Haehn, Spangler and Andrews. Within half a lap, Haehn found himself in fourth with Spangler and Andrews in pursuit of Hand. Andrews routed past Spangler midway through the moto and set his sigh ts on Hand. Andrews had claimed the top spot when the white flag came out with Hand remaining close behind. With less than a half Ia,p to the finish, it looked as if Andrews had done it again. But with only two turns between the riders and the checkered flag, Hand cut inside of Andrews to take the lead an the wi . Spangler and Haehn gave a repdt performance of their first moto, finishing third and fourth. Bill Pizzino rode his Yamaha to the overall win in the 250cc B class, scoring 1-2 moto finishes. Pjzzino took the lead to stan the first moto followed by Marty Popovich and Paul Knapp. The three riders held their positions for the entire four-lap moto with Tim Pizzute working into the fourth spot. Pizzino mav have taken the overall, but the second moto belonged to Yamaha-mounted Jim Deutsch. Deutsch who considered himself "Iongo\'erdue", took the lead through the £ir t turn and never looked back. Pizzino followed Deutsch and Pizzute for two and a half laps before passing Pizzute to take second. Popovich pressured Pizzute for third, but was unable to pass the Suzukimoul1led rider. .. West wai's in WoodlandMX By Derryl Anderson WOODLAND, WA, ocr. 18 Adam West went 1-1 today to sweep the 125cc C class of the Woodland MX. Twenty-one riders jammed the line for. this season's opener. Getting the early lead was'Darrin Kelley, followed by Mike Hamness, Don Blasdell, Todd Burchet, West and the others. On lap two West, John Noble and Shane Hickson all moved up at least one spot. By lap three West, normally a Mini class speedster, took control of the lead for good. Kenny Hart was also on the move and he wound up in third behind Blasdell. MOIO two saw Hamness with the lead ahead of West, but by lap two West was once again in command. Hart started in eighth and worked his way up 10 fourth by lap four. Holum got by Blasdell on the fourth lap also. At the checkered flag it was once again West then Hamness, Noble and Hart. In the first moto of the 250cc Pro class Scott Tyler got the holeshot followed by Jim Anderson, Mike Hartman and Jamie Munson. Everyone strung out and the order remained the same righ t to the checkered £Jag. In moto two Tyler got the scratch ahead of Anderson, Hartman and Don Bisceglia, who missed the first moto. Munson was missing from the second moto also. Tyler styled his way to a good lead on Anderson and the order stayed the same for about six laps when Bisceglia moved past Hartman. Dashiell doubles at Marysville MX By Leo Trombley MAR YSVILLE, CA, ocr. 26 Honda-mounted Pro Larry Dashiell scrambled toa double win today at the Marysville Motocross. Dashiell rode his Hondas to both lhl' 250cc and Open Pro wins. The first moto of the day saw the Open Pro riders try their hand at the new jump. Dashiell hustled himself a holeshot with Kelly Andris and Kurt Jorgensen, both Honda-mounted, right behind. By the time they had cleared a lO-foot single file drop-off, Andris had dropped back to fourth. As Andris tried to make up time, Dashiell wa be~innin~ to stretch out his lead over second place Jorgensen. Andris used the levee jump to make a pass and moved into third. By lap three. he passed Jorgensen to take over second, but there was no way that Dashiell was going to give up his bid for first place. The moto ended with Dashiell lakin/{ lht, checkert-d fla/{ 16 St'coilds ahead of Andris. The second Open Pro moto was a repeat of the first with Dashiell grabbing the holeshot and never looking back. Andris was in third and Jorgensen was in fourth half way through the first lap. Andris used the levee jump again 10 pass and moved into second. The moto ended as a duplicate of the first with Dashiell, Andris and Jorgensen in first, second and third, respectively. The Over The Hill Gang motorcycle group made the Vet class a club event, generdting 35 riders at the starting gate. Twelve Experts took the first drop of the gate with the Intermediate and Juniors following 15 seconds later. Dave White, who missed the holeshOI to Husky rider John Haaker, grabbed the first place midway through the first lap. White, however, took a big bale in the second lap and dropped back seven positions. Yamaha rider Steve Ferroni settled into first with Haaker following in second. White powered the big red Honda 500 through the entire field and with only a half a lap to go he passed first place rider Ferroni to reg-din the lead and hit the checkered flag fir t. The second moto start wa a carbon of the first, Haaker and his Hu ky leading with White econd. After passing through the big dropoff, White came out from behind the trees in first and rode as if he were rocket powered. By lap four he had passed half the field. He pas ed inside, outside and over the jumps and had another tremendous ride. While he was breezing to another first place, HaakeI' and Ferroni diced it out for second and third.
