Tommy Blackwell won the lightweight Superbike race and title. Novice riders Frank Fillingham (123). Cam Roos (312) and Robert Willis (146) finished 4-5-3. respectively. in the Ughtweight Superbike Two combined Novice/Expert race. Expert Brad lowe (220) finished sixth. . Dale Quarterly won the Heavyweight Superbike Expert race after a leadswapping duel witheventual runner-up Mike Harth. Bill Blythe topped a field of 40 rid.e rs in the RZ Challenge race. 10 The Formula Twins Novice race and title went to David Hudson . inlO turn one with Tu;;stall. back out on his Bimota 750, close behind. Tunstall took the lead as they exited the infield and headed up on ule west banking, but by the completion of the next lap Adamo was back in fron t. Buell/Harley-Davidson mounted BoTT ace Gene Church was running a solid third, ahead of Pete John on, HillOn Van Staden, Larry Shorts and . Sherry Friduss. On the fourth lap Church's Buell began to emit a cloud of smoke and you can say his day went up in a puff of smoke. Then, with two laps left in the race, Tunstall retired with mechanical difficulties, and Adamo had the win and title in his hip pocket. Second behind Adamo was Pete Johnson, who wok that spot from Van Staden on the last lap. Van Staden held on for third, with Shorts and Friduss rounding OUI the lOp five. "Hey, we won our last six races!" said Adamo. "I was taking it easy at the stan, just playing wi th Malcolme (Tunstall) because we had a new bike. 1was waiting for Gene (Church) lo see how our bike would run against the Buell, but Gene blew up and that was that." It was the Heavyweight Superbike riders turn and it was Mike Harth with the early lead with Dale Quarterley second but closing as they hit the banking. Quarterley tried a pass as the two came back around and into turn one, but Harth held him off. Larry Shorts was running third, Rentzell fourth, John Jacob fifth, Dieter Lane sixth, Joe elson eighth, and Billy Kelly ninth in the 40-rider field. On the third lap Quarterley got around Harth going into turn one. Shorts and Rentzell were having a tight race for third with Jacob a distant fifth, Lane back in sixth, and then Nelson and Kelly dicing for seventh. Lap five saw Rentzell head horts behina leader Quai-terley and Harth. The next go-around saw Harth get by Quarterly but Quarterley retook the lead and went on to win. Following Yamaha FZ750-mounted Quarterley and Harth across the line in third was Rentzell, who was aboard a Suzuki GSXR 750 as was fourth place finisher Shorts. FZ750 rider Jacob lOok fifth. In the Formula One race, last year's National Champion, Mark Morrison, took the early lead on his Suzuki RG500, followed by Jacob. But working their way up from back of the grid starting positions were Yamaha TZ750 riders John Long and David Reed. By the second lap Long was running second behind Morrison. Reed was third, and Jacob had been dropped back to fourth. The next lap saw Long in the lead with Reed closing on Morrison as they exited turn two. wo laps later it was still Long, Morrison and Reed, and they were pulling away from Joe Nelson who was running fourth, Mark Chin in fifth, and Kathleen Coburn in sixth. Reed dropped out of the race on lap five and Longand Morrison were opening a gap on the field. Long led Morrison across the fini h line for the win, with Jacob taking third, Nelson fourth, Chin fifth, and Coburn sixth. The final Race of Champions was in the Middleweight Superbike class and it was in that event that Rentzell scored his second win of the weekend. Renrzell and Tunstall diced for the lead and again it appeared th~ Tunstall had the horsepower as his Bimota 750 pulled him by Rentzell's Yamaha FZ600 on the east banking. Tunstall and Rentzell continued lo dice, while racing a distance behind them were Greg Tysor and Chuck Kurkowski, both FZ600mounted. Paul Sharwell was running fifth and David Leppelmeier was in sixth. Rentzell then passed and began to pull away from Tunstall who was ,having mechanical problems and would end up on the DNF list. Tysor and Kurkowski's dice was now for runner-up honors and they swapped the lead until lap six saw Tysor pull out some breathing room. Kurkowski werit into turn one lOO hard in trying lo catch Tysor and ran 0[[ onto the grass but got back on the track and maintained third to the finish line behind winner Rentzell and runnerup Tysor. Sharwell was fourth with Bill Beesch taking fifth. • Results uw SB ONE NOV/EX: 1. Cam Roos (Vam); 2. Perry Bruce (Yam); 3. Frank Slaughter (Suz); 4. Jere Peterson (Hon); 5. Man Royer (Hon); 6.
