Bader Manneh 1421 leads Willie Surratt (1 I. Kyle Lewis (77AI and the rest of the 125cc Pro class into turn one at Ascot Park. .finish second behind an elated Wageman. Walts seltled for third, Manley limped across the finish line in fourth, while Simons ended up fifth. With a holeshot in the I25cc final, Bader Manneh wasted no time in showing his intentions to the rest of the quarter-liter field. Honda-mounted Kyle Lewis got orr the line second followed by Willie urratt, LCQ winner Michael Craig, Craig Canoy and Jeff Matiasevich. But by the end of the initial lap Lewis passed Manneh and made it clear to the series leader that winning wasn't going to be quite that simple. Meyerscough got orr the line poorly and was ninth at the eod of lap one with Ty Davis following closely. Davis stunned DougO'Donnel and Meyerscough by blasting past the pair on lap three to take over eighth position. By lap seven, Lewis, Manoeh and Surratt had pulled three seconds on Craigand Matiasevich, who had passed Canoy one lap earlier. But on the next lap, Ty Davis fell, handing Myerscough eighth place. Myerscough wa on the gas - pressuring Canoy and threatening to carve through the pack and displace the frolll runners - when his rear axle nut loosened, allowing his axle and wheel to come loose and put him out of the race. 'Tmdissapoinled, but I'm looking forward to the 250cc race," he aid. '" feel pretty strong tonight and I think I'll do well." On lap II, Manneh slammed past Lewis to take the lead for good. At that point, Lewis held second, Surratt third, Matiasevich fourth, Craig fifth and Canoy sixth. Two laps later, Craig dropped back with machanical problems, handing fifth position to Canoy. Those positions remained unchanged to the checkered nag, with the on Iy other surprise coming on the last lap when Ty Davis, who had fallen earlier, slammed past Wooten to take sixth position behind Canoy. The 250cc Pro final was a barnburner. Open Class winner Wageman grabbed the start, followed by Manley, Kalos, Rutherford, WallS, Stanton, Dubach and Eddie Hicks. Lap one saw Kalos jam past Manley in the ultra-tight S-lUrn and immediately inherit the lead when Wageman fell on lap two. With Kalos riding hard up front, a ballle for second ensued between Manley and Watts. Entering the same tight S-turn in which he had lost the lead earlier to Kalos, Manley coIl ided violently wi th WallS and Watts fell, giving Dubach third place. Kalos missed a gear on the very next lap and was immediately passed by Manley, who was just waiting to spring. By lap five, Manley led with Kalas second, Dubach third, tanton founh, Hicks firth and Myer cough, who was £lying, sixth. Stanton passed Dubach a lap later for third while Myerscough got by Hicks for fifth. Manlev then crashed himself out of contention on the following lap, giving the lead to Kalas. Stanton inherited second, with Dubach third and Myerscough hounding him from foorth. WatLS, meanwhile, had remounted and was running seventh behind Matiasevich and Hicks. At the haJrway point, Myerscough passed Dubach to take over third and moved up right behind leaders Kalos and Stanton. The three new around the track, doubling the set of supercross whoops on the front straight, and gelling impressive air off the finish line jump. tanton got by Kalas on lap 13, and Dubach joined the fray up [ront. Two laps later, Myerscough blasted by Kalas, who seemed to be slowing, then Dubach al a jammed his way past the Honda rider, who obviously was lowing considerably. Kalas dropped two more positions before heading into the pits with a reported blown rear shock. Stanton, meanwhile, was hustling through lapped trarric and putting distance between himseJr and second place Myerscough. By lap 18, the Yamaha rider - and overall 250 and 500cc Trans-Cal champion - had five seconds on second place. At the finish, Stanton had three seconds on runner-up Myerscough, who in turn had two seconds on third place finisher Dubach. jeff Matiasevich finished a commendable fourth, with Eddie Hicks fifth and Tommy Watts finishing sixth after an early mota crash. Stanton's 250cc class win and dual class championship titles not only capped an extremely successful Trans-Cal series, but also put Stanton in an excellent position for some type of factory support next season. Suzuki dominated the Mini Expert class with Buddy Antonez taking the win over tearrtate and overall TransCal series champion jimmy Gaddis. Antunez bla ted out of the gate first and never looked back. Gaddis, who Manneh topped Lewis and Surratt in the hotly-contested 125cc feature race; the win earned Manneh the Trans-Cal Series crown. got off the line fourth, quickly caught Antunez and the two put distance between themselves and Yamahamounted Shane Trittler and Honda rider jimmy Button. New Zealand rider Darryl Atkins ended up fifth. Vet Pro action saw Yamahamounted Gary Semics take a 40second win over Steve Rawson and Mark Brooks. Rawson dominated the stan, but Semics' experience came through on lap three, and the former Team Kawasaki National rider wheelied away. (Kaw); 5. Craig Canoy (Hon); 6. Ty Davis (Hon); 7.
