RR By Bruce Scholten KENT, WA, SEPT. 21 Zlock Racing's Keith Pinkstaff took advantage of great racing conditions to blast out nearrecord lap times and probably wrap up two Can-Am championships in the bargain. This is the third year the Washingon Motorcycle Road Racing Association has joined with the Oregon and British Columbian Grayson Hart flies his Kawasaki en route to winning the 125cc Pro class at Delta· Park in Portland. Oregon. clubs to host t\1e regional championship series. In the Formula One qualifier (in which Pinkstaff entered both WMRRA and Can-Am competitions) Pinkstaff dropped an early lead to qualify second, sandwiched by Vancouver Suzuki racers Tom Walther and former Australian champion Steve Trinder. But when it came to the afternoon final, Pinkstaff took his Suzuki to an early led which he held all eight laps to the checkered flag. Behind him there was plenty of action for second place. Allied Honda's Steve Dick, running on the new D.O.T.-approved "K-Compound" Metzeler tires got past Trinder and Walther. _ Pinkstaff swept the simultaneously run WMRRA and Can-Am Superbike races as well. Again Steve Trinder had the pole position. Pinkstaff gridded between him and Bellevue Suzuki's Joe Pittman. Pinkstaff could not be denied in the final, leading every lap, while Trinder took a solid second and Claude Hislop garnered third in Can-Am points. Although Dale Zlock was entered only for club points, he was actually third overall to the checkered flag, recovering well from an early season crash. At day's end an enthusiastic Pinkstaff gave plenty of credit to Dan and Dale Zlock, saying, "it shows how good they are that they can build me a National-caliber superbike - with stock pistons, earbs and crank'" Stephen Sipes rode a Brothers Honda/BMW and RPM House-sponsored special 20 lap 600cc Production race and he walked away with it. Sipes went from the pole to an early lead, but FZ600-mounted Mark Haskins was right there, scoring first on laps three and five. Meanwhile, Scott Hieronymus had a tussle with Joe Davis who eventually rode a tired GS550 to a fourth place ahead of Patrice D~ Coster's Ninja. But after Haskins' early challenge, Sipes rode on to a convincing win, with lap rimes down to one minute 39 seconds. Suspecting Sipe's Interceptor was running a total loss system, runners-up Haskins and Hieronymus protested but it was found to be "bone stock." Results . CAN-AM F-l: 1. Kaith Pinkstaff (Suz); 2.
