Honda blasted berms and shot through the straights to give the fans a lot of excitement. Shinlever, an Open class riqer and Bradshaw, an Expert molOCTosser, jammed the turns both trying to get the upper hand. Bradshaw not officially being scored in the Open class with Shinlever had very stiff competition from the word.go. Dave Farris on a KTM ran a hard race with the two leaders early on in the first moto. Bradshaw pulled a fast holeshot with Farris eating his back tire into the first turn wide open. Midway through the race Shinlever made his presence known to all, as he passed Farris over a towering table top jump to take away Farris' second place. The moto wore on with Bradsha"w in full control. Shinlever ran second and Farris a respectful third. In the second moto the temperature of the race was turned up to full blast. Once again Bradshaw on his Honda took the early lead with Farris and Shinlever trailing. Shinlever wasted no time in passing Farris early on, making it Bradshaw leading the Open classers and Shinlever in second. All Shinlever had to do to win the overall was beat Farris but he was not content with just that. He went after Bradshaw's 500cc Honda aboard his 125cc Suzuki. It went nip and tuck for a long time with Shinlever gaining each lap. Shinlever kept leaping over jumps at extreme altitudes in his effort to pass Bradshaw. Bradshaw proved to be the best but Shinlever wanting to prove he could ride with the best did just that by winning his Open class. Shinlever commented after the race, "I just wanted to see if I really could run fast enough to beat an expert rider Iike Bradshaw, I went as fast as, it would eanhly go. His bike just plain outpowered mine!" c.o 00 O"l ~ O"l ~ l-o Q.) ..0 o .... u o Honda-mounted Andrew Leisner topped the Formula Two class during the Intemational Road Racing Association meet at Willow Springs. 125 B: 1. Graves, Cardillo triple at Willow RR By Ron MacLain ROSAMOND, CA, ocr. 5 Chuck Graves and Steve Cardillo were the big winners at the International Road Racing Association meet at Willow 20 Springs Raceway. ICRT Michelin/Christmans' M.C.s/Cole Bros. Suzuki/DoclOr Johns Frame Straightening-sponsored Graves notched wins in the .Open Stock Production, 750cc Superstreet classes, taking second place in the Formula Three class as well. Graves set the stage for his winning performance in the fourth race of the day, the 750cc Modified Production event. Graves came into the race as the points leader, with three other riders in contention, among them James Domay. At the green £lag Graves and Domay banged bars through tum one, with Domay taking the lead. As they braked from the shon straight into tum three Graves shot past Domay into the lead. By the fourth lap Graves had a big lead and was running away with the race, until the red nag stopped the race in response to a motorcycle bonfire in tum two. The downed rider appeared to be uninjured, his bike was extinguished, and the race restarted. Once again it was Domay and Graves both trying to fit through the same opening in turn one, with Graves asserting himself this time. Graves proceeded lO dial up the pace until he was all alone at the finish. Domay came in second followed by Terry French. _ In the Open Stock Production race, Graves entered his Suzuki GSXR750 and handily smoked the Open class bikes. With three wins on the day Graves enhanced his position in the ARRA standings, having led in points in all three classes going in. L.B. Yamaha/Dales M.C.s/Dunlop/Spectro'sponsored Cardillo owned the 600cc classes this day, taking wins .in the 600cc Modified Production, 600cc Superstreet and 600cc Stock Production events. In 600cc Superstreet action Yamahamounted Cardillo took the holeshot ahead of more than 50 riders, with the current ARRA number one plate holder, Earl RoioH close behind. The race was red £lagged when a rider lost traction exiting tum four and met the hay bales. At the restart it was Cardillo in front again with RoioH challenging. It was nip and tuck for awhile as RoioH appeared to be setting Cardillo up for a pass, but Cardillo met the challenge, staying out front. The race was effectively over when Rolo£( experienced mechanical problems and slowed his pace. Cardillo sailed lO an easy victory, pumping his fist in elation .as he took the checkered nag, Rolo£( held on for second place, while Calvin Rayborn came in thir!i Results F-l: 1.
