Suzuki rider Russ Daley (313) was
top Vet at Carlsbad Trans-Cal.
wilh Radzinski second, (Radzinski's
firsl maLO II th was only good for
sixth overall).
Pelers passed Gaurd for lhird aOnd
pushed hard to take over second place,
but hecouldn't quite get close enough.
Gaurd ended up fourth for the
maLO and the overall, and Davis turned
in a LOp ride LO take over fifth. Then,
obviously getting good pit signals
telling him he needed LO pass Gaurd
lO win, Davis made a last-ditch banzai thal fell short by only a few feet at
the line.
.
Consistency was the key in the Vet
Junior Class. Rod Winfree won the
first maLO after moving from third LO
first in one lap. A heated battle ensued
for the remaining positions with Jack
McCormick taking second, and Will
Decker finishing third.
Winfree holeshot and led the second
mota as well, but there was a close
battle right with him. Rick Glass
moved from third LO first to win the
maLO, and Decker moved from well
back in the pack to take second,
bumping Winfree to third. McCormick made a last-straight pass on a
tiring Winfree to take over third and
give the class a three-way tie for first.
Decker took the overall win with
McCormick second and Winfree third.
• Butch Smith was impres;ive in the
80cc Intermediate class. The HRP/
Honda rider destroyed the field in
each maLO to win over Dale Rayzor
and Kayle Johnson.
There was good racing in the 250
Novice class. There were two divisions - both on the track at once.
When the dust settled, two Kawasaki
riders were the winners. Kevin Peoples won the first division and Ronald
Williams took the second.
