Hatfields claim titles at ISIC MX SUN YMEAD, CA, SEPT. 28 By Susan Willian Suzuki's Mike Healey came to DeAnza Cycle Park today and demolished the competition in the 250cc Pro class by winning· TERRE HAUTE, IN. SEPT. 20-21 both motos. Healey, on the come back trai I following a long list of injuries, and his Suzuki RM250 defeated a starting gate full of combined 125, 250cc and Open Pros for the overall and class win, while Michael Preston (Kawasaki) and Greg Smith (Honda) claimed victories in the 125cc and Open classes. In the first moto, the gate dropped and Smith blew into the lead on his Open Honda, but in hot pursuit was Healey. It only took Healey a few laps before he had taken over the number one position, and from then on, Healey never looked back as he strolled home for the win. Yamahamounted Keith Williamson (25Occ) wound up taking second ahead of Preston (125cc) and Smith. Healey quickly jumped out to the early lead in the second moto ahead of Kawasaki-mounted Lance Gorton (25Occ). While Healey pulled away, Gorton held on to second for three laps before getting passed by Suzuki rider Marc Johnson (25Occ). A few laps after that, Preston came on the scene and passed both riders, taking over second. When it was all over, it . was Healey way out in front, followed by Preston, Williamson, Johnson and Smith. Novice rider Ron Williams and his 250cc Kawasaki topped one of the largest classes of the day with consistent 2-1 moto finishes. Eleven 250cc Novices lined the starting gate for the first moto and it was Williams taking the holeshot ahead of Sam Burns and Steve Polenske (Suzuki). By the end of the first lap, Polenske and his Suzuki were leading the way, but during the fourth lap, he dropped out and handed the top spot back to Burns. From then on, Burns managed Despite rainy and wet conditions in Terre Haute, bothers Jason and Joshua Hatfield claimed Indiana State Invitational Championship titles in the Jr. Mini, Pee Wee and Automatic classes today. In the Jr. Mini class, Jason Hatfield cruised out to an early lead in the first moto ahead of Mike Lomax and Scoggins Berg. But shortly after, Berg held the throttle wide open through a section of whoops and swapped his way into second place. But once into second, Berg crashed handing his spot back to Lomax and giving Kerie Fleenor third. Berg regrouped and set after Fleenor who he eventually passed, but Berg's drive didn't end there. A few laps later, Berg reeled-in and slipped by Lomax for second. At the finish it was Hatfield claiming the win ahead of Berg and Lomax. The second moto was another flagto-flag romp by Hatfield, while Lomax ended up taking second after Berg dropped out with bike problems. In the Pee Wee division, Jason Hatfield again dominated every moto, while his brother Joshua did the same in the Automatics. Results AUTO: ,. Joshul H.lfield (V.m); 2. M.tt BroadSlrll1 (ylm); 3.
