A Team Husky's larry Roeseler rides the desert ruts on his big 510 fourstroke. Roeseler finished second overall behind teammate Dan Smith. en'ttoo many trails on the bomb run and I got there like 20th," he said. "I worked my way up during the first loop and was doing pretty good. There was no dust out on the second loop, so I made up some time there too. And the third loop had lots of uphills and down hills - that pan was great." Don Griewe, riding an Open class Kawasaki with a flat tire and split rear rim, took eighth overall. He swore he would never experiment with tires again. "Look at this mess," he said. "Every time I experiment I get a flat, and this time therirn's gone too. I rode the whole last loop that way. With all the rock hills up there 1 didn't think I could make it. 1 got off a rock cliff once and went dow'n about a mile before I could get back. But overall it was a real fun race. It was challenging but it was fun." Ninth overall (third 250cc Expert) was claimed by Suzuki of Van N uysl Pro Circuit-sponsored Dale Knapp. "The only problem 1 had was that my gas line came off twice at the bomb, and it was dusty as hell," said Knapp. "But it was a bitchin' course. That third loop was a 250 loop all the way, only 1 had to ride all of it with a back flat. I'm just exhausted." Kenny Parry, who crossed the finish line in 10th overall (fourth 250cc Expert) said it was the dustiest course he'd ever seen. "I was way back about 50th - at the bomb, and the dust was awful," he said. "I guess.I moved up a lot in the last loop, but really, I didn't think 1 was catching' up at all. I'm surprised to.be up here." ' The first Amateur bike to cross the line was an Open class Kawasaki piloted by Dan Dawson, who finished II th overall. "It was a great course, and a lot of fun," said Daw- son, "but it was fast. I haven't had a chance to gear this thing up. I've still have motocross gearing and all the 2505 were passing me out in the second loop. It really was fast out there." The first Senior Open bike to take the checkered flag was a Husqvarna ridden by Richard Jackson, who finished 12th overall, and the first 250cc Senior rider to finish the race was an elated Ron Hall, who rode his Suzuki home to 32nd overall. The surprise of the day was a rapid ride by Dan Smith's brother, Frank. A recent graduate to the Amateur ranks, Smith piloted his 125 Kawasaki into second in the C bike class, and took a high 28th in the overall standings. Results OVERALL: 1. Dan Smith (Hus); 2.
