"MOTORCYCLIST and DIRT RIDER are my motorcycling bibles." $-0 ~ ,.0 o .... u o -Jerry Grant Name: Jerry Grant Auto racing career: S,tarted out racing midgets and modified hardtops; twice SCCA Northwest Sports Car Champion; SCCA Driver of the Year in Northwest Division; Western Canadian Sports Car Champ; drove for Dan Gurney for seven years, assisting in winning a World's Manufacturing Championship for Ford . Motor Co.; drove the Indianapolis 500 ten times; first driver in auto racing history to run an official lap over 200 miles per hour Riding histOry: "Motorcycles have been my hobby for as long as I can remember, probably 30 years. I would say half the people in auto racing are hobbyist riders or racers. And some of them are frrst-elass riders. It's the way I escape the telephone, and it's how I keep from getting ulcers. To me, it's the vacation that's always around the comer." Riding preference: "I own a street bike, but my favorite type of riding is otT-road. We ride in the high desert, and ~hen it gets too hot, we go up into the Sierras, sometimes we get up into the snow when it's 95 degrees down below. I'm on the road a lot, but when I'm home our frrst priority is riding. I'll tell you how much we enjoy it..On Father's Day, we got up at 3:00 a.m. to go riding so we could be back for dinner at 2:30 p.m. It's a heavy priority." llagazlnes: "MOTORCYCLIST and DIRT RIDER are my motorcycling bibles. Today, motorcycles change as quickly as the clock, and there's no way the average buyer can go out and make an intelligent pick on his own. You have to have faith in the people you're reading, and MOTORCYCLIST and DIRT RIDER affect what I'm go~g to purchase next. Every month I look forward to jumping into both magazines and reading them from first page to last. I get a lot of literature in my It}i~~ job-about 25 pieces a day-and DIRT RIDER and MOTORCYCLIST take priority over all of them. The way I look at things is, if you're going to do something, do it right. They're certainly a class act." 17
