Bodines, not Middletown Plea e note the followig,g re your report on round eight of the NATC Observed Trials Championship Series: the event \Va held in Bodines. Pennsylvania, nOI Middletown, Pennsylvania. The host club was the Pennsylvania Trail Riders. BOB HOWARD Williamsport, PA That's not Bugsy I really liked the Dirt Rider ad on Dick "Bugsy" Mann in your September 10 issue, but am I one of the first I00 smart ass readers to point out the identity of the older gentleman in the middle picture? He is one Jeffrey Smith on a 250 Can-Am at the 1975 ISDT. Do I win a free Cycle News hat that fits all sizes or a life subscription to Dirt Rider? TRANT JARMAN Automobile Magazine Ann Arbor, MI • Let's hear it for the boy Hats o£f to the 1986 500cc World Champion Eddie Lawson. We've followed him closely since his early years with Kawasaki and his career continues to be nothing less than brilliant. There is another American rider who seems to get most of the press and recognition, but Eddie showed us this year what a true World Champion is made of by crashing hard at Laguna Seca and coming back the following weekend to win a GP in Europe. I'll put my money on Eddie Lawson every time no matter who he's riding against. We want to. help wave the flag for Eddie, so where can we buy the World Champion T-shirts and hats? ART DAVIS Housatonic, MA Lawson World Championship Tshirts are available for $12.95 each, and shirts with collar and pocket are available for $18 each, from Fine Line Sportswear, 1040 W. 2nd t., Pomona, CA 91766, 714/623-J43{l . Editor. 1/2 Fast Racing After having taken part in the WERA 24 Hours West endurance road race at Willow Springs, I anxiously awaited the arrival of Cycle News to read of my team's finish. I thought surely a team that ran in the top £ive for 18 of tbe 24 hours would receive some mention or perhaps in that we were first in the Middleweight class might earn a word or two. The fact that we finished 15 laps up on the Red Eagle Racing "superbike," whom you found room to mention, would certainly be worthy of a line. I am aware that it's not possible to mention all teams in your otherwise good race coverage, however, just a word or two wiJI encourage a team to return next year, and sponsors to continue to help. ' Thanks for printing my letter and thanks to my 1/2 Fast Racing's sponsors, Michelin Tires and Lockhart. Thanks also to WERA for a very well run event. WALT CADMAN 1/2 Fast Racing Brea, CA Your hat is on the way, Trant; You'll have to check with Dirt Rider on the sub. "That picture didn't look illl that right to me," said Dick Mann when we asked him about it. "1 rode a high number at the Six Days that year." Charlie Morey, the editor of Dirt Rider, covered the 1975 IS DE for Cycle News. "I've got to pass the buck on that one and place the blame for the wrong picture on publisher Dick Lague, although I'll admit I wasn't sure whether or not it was Bugsy, " said Morey . .. Editor. We're blushing Just received the latest issue of Cycle News (September 24, 1986). I think your new format is great! Also, the fuJI-bleed cover is terrific and would be even if it were not a Kawasaki. Cycle News has ma~e tremendous progress over the past few years. Keep up the good work. MIKE VAUGHN Director of Communications Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A.
