CA (818) 574-7625 LAKE.WOOD, CO, AUG. 3] Rocky Mountain Promotions held their final motocross of the season here today, and Jim Mitchell increased his slight points lead over SCOtt Kilgore in the Open Pros. MitcheJl gated fourth in moto one, as defending state champ Dave Newell grabbed the holeshot. Newell, who has ridden sparingly in this class in 1986, held the lead to the finish. MitcheJl reached second position on lap three, three seconds behind Newell. However, Mitchell could not close the gap and spent the remainder of the race swapping places with thirdplace finisher Bob Hanrahan. Mi tchell could only manage a midpack start in moto two, but Newell was even further back. Mitchell pushed his ]983 uzuki to the lead by lilP three where be stayed to the checkers. Hanrahan, Kilgore and Cliff Fredericks diced for second from lap three on, with Kilgore eventually raking the spot ahead of Hanrahan. Tim Buchli and Stacey Cook traded wins in the l25cc Pros, but Buchli earned· the overall by winning the decisive second moto. Cook holeshot round one and received a big break just before the completion of lap one. Second-place rider Shawn Smith slid sideways down a steep drop in front of the pack; while the infield slowed to dodge Smith's downed Kawasaki, Cook dashed away, unaware of the mishap. Buchli, meantime, was desperately trying to thread his way up from a 20th-place Start. His efforts were successful as he reached second at the finjsh, ] I seconds off Cook's winning pace. Buchli had better luck in round two, gating first while Cook exited turn one in fifth. Buchli was able to build a solid lead by the time Cook worked to second on lap three. Cook gave it his best shot to close on Buchli, but to no avail. Buchli took tbe win by six seconds. Andy Atkins took a double-molO victory in the 80cc Experts, but Scott Fulcher gave him a real bartle. Fulcher led the first half of round one, then he and Atkins traded places several rimes before Atkins edged him at the flag. Fulcher was also pulling away in molO rwo, but cra hed midmoto, allowing Atkin to sweep past for another win. Results 60 NOV: 1. Mike Jensen (Kaw); 2. Brian Padgett (Kaw); 3. Wes Hay (Han). 60 AM: t.
