Top Fuel·drag racer Elmer Trett of Georgia set a new track record at Greensboro. North Carolina's Piedmont Dragway over the Labor Day weekend. Trett's elapsed time on the 118-mile track in a qualifying run was 4.665 seconds and he backed that up with a. winning pass at 4.664 to defeat Larry McBride in the final. Trett's first run saw him go 159.85 mph while his final speed was 158.73. Here's some more info on the 5th Annual North Georgia Mountains SOcc Road Reliability Run which starts and ends in Suches, Georgia, on October 26. The promoter says finding Suches is "a real treat. If you've never been there before, please allow two we ks travel time." John Penton, when asked prior to last year's run if he thought he could win, said, "Hell, I thought I won just by finding this place."
