Peterson shot out of the gate LO take the second moLO lead with Surratt again stuck LO him like glue. On lap three Surratt over-cooked a turn, ran of[ the track, and gave Peterson some breathing room. For the remaining two laps Surratt rode like a madman, and by the time the flag came out he was within a wheel length of Peterson once again. Everything went Peterson's way this time - he won the moLO and the overall by inches with Surratt coming in a very close second. Keith Williamson rounded out the top three with a 4-4. Results 60: ,. Former dirt track star john Hately returned to Ascot after a long ab ence and showed he hasn't lost the knack by taking a second in the first moLO on a borrowed Husky. At the start of the second moLO Hately was involved in a first turn pileup and dropped back to finish third. Ronnie Ray Lraded positions with Hately, taking a third in moLO one and a second in moLO two for a second overall. Roy Coe dusted the competition in the Vet junior contest, winning both moLOS easily. john McManaway took his Yamaha to two seconds and Brian Naile picked up two thirds. Honda-mounted Perrin Perez walked off with first overall in the I25cc Junior class after a first moLO win and a second place in moLO two. Mark Easley holeshot the second moLO, took the checkers with a lO bike length lead and took second overall. Karl Fernandez was third overall with a 2-3 score. Rudy Chavez dominated the first division of 250cc Beginners, riding his Honda to a win in both moLOS. Tom Wells turned in a 3-2 for second overall with Scott Lynch getting a third with a 2-3 finish. The 250cc Pros saw Todd Peterson and Willie Surratt put on the best show of the night with some extremely close racing. Peterson got the holeshot in the first round with Surratt staying only inches behind for the entire moLO. Right before the finish Delacy aces Baylands Spdwy By Bill Spencer FREMONT, CA, AUG. 21 Mike Delacy rode one of his old racers to the Scratch main at round 16 of Class A Speedway under the lights of Baylands Raceway Park while Mark Day surprised a few with his first Handicap main win of the year. With the big boys off to the south-· lands for the qualifiers, it was a light night in Division One, as Don Butler came up north to win the opening Handicap heat on the Highland Framers/j&M Trophies special. Day held off Delacy in the second heat while Chris Paulson took third over Derek Dorrestyn. Mark Zeissler returned to action with a win in heat four after a couple of months off recycling a thumb. Day proved his·own value winning the semi in fine fashion over Nick Geranio while Delacy suffered trying to pass on the wide side and missed the Lransfer by inches. Paulson passed Wild Willy Hermant, Dorrestyn and Zeissler to win the other semi with Day holding off Dorrestyn. For the main, Day held a good charge [rom the start and was never headed although Zeissler tried twice. Geranio and Dorrestyn were having a good battle when Butler came upand made the pass along with Paulson. Just about the same time as the wide side pass at the stripe, Paulson clipped Butler and did a horendous flip that settled him almost into the first turn, but amazingly uninjured. As he was out of the way and the track clear, no Del Schnitzer flies off the Castle Rock TT jump in Washington during the 750cc class; Schnitzer finished second in his heat but broke in the main. red was thrown and Day proved fruitful with Zeissler closing at the checkers. Geranio held third over Dorrestyn and Butler caught up. Delacy started out the Scratch heats with a bang, winning over Geranio. Greg Maru won the second heat with an outside move for the win over Butler while Paulson held off the hard charge from Mike Solis in heat three and Zeissler stopped john Volk in the final heat. Volk and Martz got the drop on Delacy in the semi, but the number one Bicycle bop/Napa Cycle Salvage/R&j Cycle entry was too much and he went around for the win. Martz held off the AXO Sports special while Paul on held a good line throughout the second emi and defeated Butler at the line. Paulson picked the pole on the RPM/Miller Alum/Bay Area Screens/ Oilz,,11 special with Delacy next to him and Butler on the outside of •Martz. Butler had the gate, but was around the corner last with Delacy taking over and making it look easy as he rode to the win over Maru and Butler. Mike Hart topped the Division Two main once again with Perry Sherman on the attack for second over wild man jon King. Shawn Reppert tried hard and had to try twice as he would get too wide for a pass and then have to work up again. Mike Kain won bis third Division Three show and lost one with another repeat of last week's win over Chris Rudy and Dan Neilson. Lyle Gossett was credited with fourth after a crash infested last lap. Gosset wem down in turn three while Ron Clevenger smacked the outside wall of turn four on the last lap. Gossett got up and went by for the checkers as Clevenger was helped up and off with little injury, but some bike damage. In the featured Match Race, Paulson putan a great show and whipped on the long side of Greg Martz in the best of three shows, winning the final by a bike length and the rightLO run ag-ainst Bart Bast for big bucks. Davis doubles Castle Rock IT By Derryl Anderson CASTLE ROCK, WA, AUG. 16 Bremerton speedster Darell Davis came down to Castle Rock tonight and left with the biggest share of the money after winning both the 250-500 and 750cc Pro-Am classes of the TT held at the fairgrounds. The yet unsponsored youngster was fresh off a second overall at Sturgis and looked absolutely £lawless LOnight as he totally dominated the competition. In his heat race Davis got the holeshot ahead of Troy Yeo, john Clayton, Rex Fisher, Aaron Waggoner, Tricia Lyons and Buddy Rohrs. On lap three Fisher got by Clayton and Lyons moved under Waggoner. Davis was riding smooth as he enjoyed a l5-yard lead over Yeo and the others. The positions remained the same and at the checkered flag it was Davis, Yeo, Fisher, ClayLOn, Lyons, Waggoner and Rohrs. In the other heat race Del Schnitzer got the scratch followed by Glynn Hewitt, Dan Cordell, jim Servo, Ron Adams, Marty Zerbel, Paul Newman and Brian Baldwin. Hewitt was pressuring Schniuer lap after lap while Servo and Cordell were running sideby-side. Finally St·rvo made a pass stick as Ihey new over the jump. With a lap to go Adams moved up a notch and Hewitt was stiI! trying to find an opening on Schniuer. Coming out of turn four Hewitt went low and barely edged out Schnitter at the flag. Behind them was Servo, Cordell, Adams and the others. In the main event Davis got the scratch and went wire-to-wire. Schnitzer was close for three laps umil his shifter broke. Taking over second was Hewitt then Servo, Cordell, Yeo, Fisher, Zerbel, Adams and Waggoner. The positions stayed that way to the end of the race.
