CA 92680 (714) 558-9393 ON HONDA By Kit Palmer Viva Enduro is a 61-minutelong video about the 60th International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) held last year in Alp, Spain. It's a British-made video documenting the prestigious six days event which ran through the rocky, woodsy and dry terrain of the Pyrenees mountains. The video begins with a brief look of some of the Spanish villages in the area and the opening ceremonies. This lasts for a few minutes then the rest of the film catches riders in action on the trail;' climbing hills, crossing rocky streams, racing around the special test courses and motoring through small country towns, all starting with day one. Photography is the video's strongpoint. The cameras capture riders struggling through tough sections, such as pushing their bikes up rocky hills in the dust and heat, making the viewer feel as if he's part of the action. Just watching the film will make your muscles ore. Variety keeps the viewer from getting bored since the camera never stay in one section of the trail too long. Every so often, the riding action is broken up by a rider interview, including Americans Larry Roeseillr, Jeff Fredelle and Dave Bertram. The interviews are shon, which is okay, since the interviewer usually asks uninteresting questions. But the break from the riding is good. Narration is poor, unexciting and tacks behind-the-scenes information. A British narrator spends too much time describing what the rider is doing on the screen, such as dabbing a foot in a turn, pushing his bike up a hill or going off course - that's already obvious by watching the screen. The' narrator does, however, identify almost every rider and the bike he's on in the scene and points out what country, and or team, he's representing, but that's it. (We did catch a few errors, though). If you haven't any idea what the Six Days is all about. you might not learn too much from this video, since the mm doesn't describe what riders have to do to win or just finish the event, other than ride tough trails for six days straight. As far as race coverage, the video only mentions a few times how the top Trophy Teams are doing in points day by day, but rarely mentions how or why the teams are leading or losing. Again, not enough behind the scene, interesting facts, such as Roeseler getting a fIat tire on day two and losing the class win because of it. The video wraps up with the final. event of the series - the motocross special tests. Despite some flaws (mostly the narration), the camera work makes Viva Enduro a video worth having. It has plenty of riding action, enough to keep any motorcycle enthusiast happily entertained, more than once. Viva Enduro is available through Malcolm Smith Products. Dept.
