I came out on top of a three-way tie in hard-fought65cc Mini acrion in round four of th Secession Night MX Series. In the first 250cc/Open Pro moLO, Tim Terry gassed bis Honda to the lead at the Slan and led all tbe way while Yamaha-mounted Ashworth seuled for'second over Ken Teddards. MOLO two saw TeTTy.again take command of the lead at the stan. Ashwonh staned at mid-pack but sliced through traffic and set his sights on Terry's lead position. Ashworth's persistence paid off on the last lap when he got by TeTTy to win. Ashwonh's2-1 edged Terry's 1-2while Teddards finished 3-3 for tbird. Vince Hardy led the first 65cc Mini m'oLO from start LO finish with series leader Phil Hayes finishing second over Patrick Ashwonh. Hayes holeshot moLO two but Ash,;rorth eventually got by fOTlhe win over Hayes and Hardy. The results was a three-way tie with Ashworth's 3-1 LOpping Hayes' 2-2 and Hardy's 1-3. Ashworth came back in junior ,Mini action and placed third overall. In the 250cc Novice class, Darren Carson rolled out his new Kawasaki and raced LO a pair of second place finishes to win over Allen Rucker's 1-3 score. Rucker jumped into the series lead, six points ahead of Greg Elijah. Elijah was o[[-the-pace, finishing seventb overall. Last week's winner, Brian Murphy, overcame poor starts to finish 3-5, neuing third overall. Keith Brady looked strong in 250cc Amateur action and won both moLOS, besting je[[ Leachmon in the first and john Warren in the second. Leachmon finished third in moto two, nNting second place gold over Grant Wood's pairof[ourtbs. Warren was fourth overall, good enough to maintain his series point lead. Cantrell restartec;l in sixth spot and four laps later, he had secured second. Series leader Johnny Ware, however, was long gone for the win. Bishop fakes PenfonMX By Pebble Jones PENTON, AL, AUG. 8 Tony Bishop busted loose today when he took first overall in the 125cc Amateur class at the Penton MX after winning the sc;:ond moto. In the first moLO of the I 25cc Amateur class it was Craig Ray who popped the holeshol. Those right behind him in consecutive order were - Curtis Threlkeld, Jeff Brown, Tony Bishop, Dennis Hayes, and Steve Saunders. About halfway into lap one Ray began pulling away. Lap one also found' Bishop moving in on Brown LO auack and move into third with Brown falling to fourth. On lap two the first three began adding distance over the other riders. By halfway through lap two Ray bad moved well ahead of Threlkeld while Threlkeld himself was a good dislance over Bishop. At the Slart of lap three Threlkeld gained on Ray. Bishop was also getting close to Threlkeld. Meanwhile, Brown, Saunders and Hayes had bunched together and begun to baule back and forth. By lap three, Brown moved slightly ahead 01 Saunders in third, and Saunders had moved well ahead of Hayes. Toward the end of the lap Saunders began to hound Brown. Lap five found Bishop quickly moving away from Brown in hot purswt of Threlkeld; Hayes moved in to pass Saunders. Ray held on for t~e win while Threlkeld took second, Bisbop third, Brown fourth, Hayes fifth and Saunders sixth. In moLO two Bishop popped the holeshot with Threlkeld, Ray, Brown and Hayes not far behind. Bishop, Threlkeld and Ray gradually moved
