his wife for their time and effon. It is apparem that Mark is not only a great competitor, but a very cordial person and ups landing employee of Husqvarna. Thanks again, Mark and Betsy. MARKGRUMKE President Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship Bridgeton, MO Dreg recing In response to a leuer from Jeff Smith of Nashville,-Tennessee(Cycie News, June25), I take personal insult in his re,feTTing to drag racing Nation· als as a place when; only degenerates go. I don't know where he is referring ,LO but as a racer and a spectator at lDBA, NMRA, Dragbike!, and NHRA evems I have never seen the kind of people that he is talking about. Yet at only one National road race in New Hampshire that I had auended I was put to the test lO keep my girlfriend from being raped! • Knowing that I can't really change all those thousands of people I will ,travel with ,the guys from now on. Give drag racing a chance. Every street bike you buy has a quarter-mile time as son of a consumer guide for the unwary buyer. ED DOHERTY Woburn, MA Pennsylvenie treils I have a problem 1 hope you or . your readers can help me with. I live in southeastern Pennsylvania and I am having a diHiculltime finding a decem legal place to ride my Kawasaki KX125. If anyone knows of such' a place in my area, I would appreciate it if they would let me know. BRUCE NElDE West Chester, PA Assuming you mean a "legal place" other than a race track, we suggest you contact the Pennsylvania Trail Riders Association, Box 77, Thomasville, PA 17364 ... Editor. You meet the nicest people . My unexpected meeting with the asphalt at Blackhawk Farms on August 2 confirmed a theory which my wife Judy and I have been expound· ing on for several years now, - road racers are simply the nicest people in the world. The concern of those offering assis· lance and support was remarkable and very much appreciated. To all the very special people who retrieved our Ducati from turn six, loaded OUT trailer, proviaed taxi service lO and from the restroom, made us laugh (a painful but welcome experience), offered lO auempt the "fireman's carry," and generally made a dismal day bearable, thanks! KIM CASPER Milwaukee, WI Hets off to Hyde On SalUrday, AUguSl2, Mark Hyde of Husqvama hosted an off·road riding clinic that was sponsored by the Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship Series. Hyde managed the largerthan-expected turnout with ease. The participams listened and observed auemively as he discussed such lOpics as rider and mOlOrcycle prepara· tion, as well as demonstrating various riding techniques. During a shon trail ride on Sunday's race course, the panicipams were able lO exh, ibit their personal skills while Mark looked on with commems and suggestions. Anyone with a question oblained an answer from the knowledgeable host. Due to the successfulness of the cI inic, I just wanted to take this opponunity to commend Mark on a job well done and lO thank him and Rising ster. I am pleased to see that Formula One road racer Randy Renfrow is not only winning but getting the media (press) allennon he deserves. How easily we forget how hard it is for a privateer to compete with factorysponsored riders. What a shame it would be for everyone involved if this "rising star" were overlooked and not given a facLOry ride in '87. MARK CLATTERBUCK Chantilly, VA On June 18, 1986, House Bill 4972 was referred from the Energy in Commerce Division to Health & Environment within the U.S. House of Repre· senlatives. It's referral signifies the beginning of a possible one to twoyear incubation period, before it mao tures LO the proponions allowing it LO return LO the Congressional f100T. For those of you who are unfamiliar with HB4972, it is a bill that was created by the American Medical Association and sponsored by Represenlative Mike Synar of Oldahoma.
