New Kawasalds for 1987 , More muscle for the sport cruiser By Kit Palmer Highlighting' Kawasaki's lineup of 1987 street motorcycles is the new Kawasaki ZLIOOO-AI. Kawasaki calls the new ZLIOOO the "muscle bike" of its sport-cruiser lineup 26 J and is aimed towards the stylemore get-up-and-go than the miRded cruiseFwA&wantseven - --1986- 900cc Eliminator. Using A limited edition Ninja 600RX ha. an aluminum frame and a new paint schame. Only 1000 Ninja 600RX. will be imported into the U.S. last year's Eliminator frame, the ZLIOOO is fitted with the same 997cc, liquid-cooled, in-line four cylinder engine as used in the 1986 spon touring Concours model. The only significant dif[erence is that the ZL I000 does not have internal rotatingcounter balancers to control vibration like the Concours does, but the motor is rubber-mounted. Other features include shaft drive, a six·speed transmission, air and rebound damping adj ustable rear shocks, transistorized ignition, aluminum wheels, and from and rear disc brakes. The ZLIOOO also has a onepiece stepped seat and a larger (than the 900cc Eliminator) 4.9 gallon gas tank. The aluminum frame Ninja 600RX is 16.5 pounds lighter than the standard Ninja 600. Also incorporated in the new frame design is a decreased steering head angle, which tightens the wheelbase by nearly half an inch for quicker steering. Only 1000 Ninja 600RXs will be offered for sale in the United States. Kawasaki's lightweight street s~n Ninja 250 - introduced for the first time in 1986 - has sparked enough interest to warrant a return visit to the United Slates for '87, is basically unchanged with its liquid-cooled, two-cylinder engine, six-speed transmission, front and rear disc brakes and Uni-Trak rear suspension. -
