Winner Damon Bradshaw (68) leads Jimmy Button (17). Buddy Antunez
(76) and Marty Vaughn (18) in the 85cc Modified 12-13 class,
had more experience on a starting
gate Newman would have been in for
a much closer race. Regardless, Steve
Ezell grabbed the third place trophy.
. Last year's most exciting race, and
possibly the closest in Dude Ranch
history, was the Women's class battle
between America's first lady of moto·
cross, Lisa Akin, and the new gal on
the block, Kawasaki's Mercedes Gonzalez, And this year's race was no different, as Akin and Gonzalez went
round and round. Gonzalez knocked
Akin from her throne after four
straight Loretta Lynn titles. Akin
might have been slowed by a shoulder
injury, but Gonzalez is nonetheless a
worthy champion. She was followed
by Akin. Debra Mott, Dee Ann Wood
and Tara Harrison in the final
results.
