Newly crowned World Champion Eddie Lawson ended the 500cc GP road race season by riding his faotory Yamaha to victory in the San Marino GP in Misano, Italy, on August 24. Lawson finished 10 seconds in front of runner-up Wayne Gardner (Hon). Randy Mamola (Yam) finished third and Mike Baldwin (Yam) founh. Texan Kevin Schwantz (Suz) finished ninth. Japan's Tadahiko Taira (Yam) won the 250cc GP at Misano. Taira took over the lead for good when Carlos Lavado (Yam). who had clinched the World Championship in the previous round, crashed with just two laps to go. Sito Pons (Hon) was second and Dominique Sarron (Hon) finished third. The 125cc GP at Misano was won by August Auinger (Bar) with Luca Cadalora (Gar) second and Fausto Gre-sini (Gar) third. Cadalora leads the point standings over Gresini, 110 to 99. Spain's Jorge Maninez (Der) clinched the 80cc World Championship by finishing second to PierPaolo Bianchi (See). The new status will be the key in the AMA's effort to include motorcycle trails in the Hoosier National Forest. located in southern Indiana. The Hoosier is the only National Forest without a plan for off-road riding. · Byron Hines, of Vanc~ and Hines Racing, crashed his Pro Stock Suzuki while competing in a Dragbikel drag raceat Fremont, California, on August 24. "His foot might be broken and he is scuffed-up, but otherwise he's OK as is his bike," said Terry Vance, Hines' partner. I.nformed sources from Europe say that Wayne Gardner's British GPwinning Honda V-four featured computer-controlled fuel-injection.
