., Wrong guy In your coverage of the Mammoth Mountain MX, you mentioned that A. Carlson LOok third overall in the 250cc Intermediate class. I would like LO correa this. You see, I bought A. Carlson's entry after he had bike problems. Therefore it was me, not him that deserves the credit. Also, it was the first time I had ridden a 250, so I was pleased with the result. I would like to thank the people who made it possible for me LO do so well. Thank you, Mom and Dad, Brenda at Gear Racewear, ND Spark Plugs, and SD Racing. TIM McCLINTOCK Morgan Hill, CA Desert fiasco I would like LO warn other riders of an organization called 21 st Century Promotions. Here are some of the highlights of their August 3 desert race in Indio, California: I. Noambulance, no Rescue 3, or any other type of medical upport. 2. 0 sign-up. 3. Questionable insurance. 4.ltappeared the event was run on private property without permission of the owners. It appeared as though there was onl y one person in charge of running the event, and after CHP and the local fire department came, the Sheriff's Department finally hauled this guy away. The organization has every possibility of being a scheme. They offer everything but a trip to the moon, but don't even hand out finisher's pins. Before you race one 01 21st Century Promotions' desert fiascos, think twice if it is worth being hurt in the middle of the desert with no medical helpwhile the promoter is in jail! I have. wilderness area " ... from the Sespe Condor Sanctuary near Fillmore to the Frazier Park area near Mount Pinos ..." A second article stated that the Plan would preclude offhighway vehicle use in the Hungry Valley area. Needless LO say, we have been inundated with leuers from concerned - but misinformed - ORV and motorcycle enthusiasts. Fortunately, the newspaper has since primed a correction and the word is out that, rather than eliminating OR V activity in the Mount Pinos area, the Plan calls for enhancement of opportunities in that part of the National Forest. evertbeless, I'm ure that there are still many people in southern California who, because of the Star Free Press article or "tbe grapevine," do not under ta,nd what the proposed Plan entails. I am hoping that through Cycle News you will be able to help us get the correct information LO those motorcyclists and ORV enthusiasts who are interested in the future of Los Padres National Forest. Although our meeting in Frazier Park on August 21 is intended as a follow-up workshop for those individuals who auended the July 14 meeting there, we will be happy to schedule other sessions for any motorcycle or ORV organization whose members would like LO learn more about the proposed Plan and offer their comments. Interested persons hould contact me (or Kathy Good from our Planning StaHl at 805/6836711. We are encouraging the public to submit their comments on the Plan in writing, however; we will be happy LO take input over the telephone if that is more convenient. Written responses should be addressed to: Forest Supervisor, Los Padres ational Forest, Auention LMP, 6144 Calle Real, Goleta, CA 931 l7. The90-day public response period closes on September 30, 1986.
