A battle for third between Watts, Kiedrowski, Boston, Todd DeHoop, Jeff Stanton, Crozier and Dennis Hawthorne lasted the entire length of the moto. The third- through ninth-place dogfight was tight with Watts barely holding on to the number three position. In the 500cc Modified Pro class, Jeff Stanton was awesome, winning every timeout. Stanton and his Yamaha defeated a pack of Kawasaki riders to nail the overall; Watts finished second. Richardson rallied to a third, while Hawthorne. Sanford Buchalter and Honda-mounted Kalos finished up in the top six positions. In the 83cc Modified Expert 12plus class, it was Bradshaw all the way on his Yamaha. Bradshaw won Saturday's first main moto and came back Sunday and grabbed the holeshot in the final run-off moLO. But on the move was Honda rider Jimmy Button. who quickly made up for a poor start by taking over fourth on the third lap. Once into third, Button set after and passed Lamson. Kawasaki rider Jason Langford, who went into Sunday's final with three points, ran into mechanical problems early in the race. His bike would cut out at high rpm, causing him LO eventually drop out. Later in the moto, Schultz passed Lamson for fourth, making the finishingorder Bradshaw, Simmet, ButLOn, Schultz, Lamson, Suzuki rider Buddy Antunez, Gaddis, Shane Trittler and Darryl Atkins. In the 83cc Stock Expert 12-plus class, Bradshaw wasn't as fortunate. He had earned a somewhat high seven points after Saturday, virtually eliminating any chances for him to take the overall Sunday. During the run-offs, Kawasaki-mounted Jeff Emig dominated from start to finish. He blew into the lead right at the start, while Bradshaw, Gaddis, Antunez, Junior Jackson. Paul Winn, Simmet, Bryan Smith and Schultz chased. Bradshaw stayed close to Emig for the first few laps before crashing and dropping LO third. Second-place Gaddis, Bradshaw and Yamaha rider Winn battled intensely for the next couple of laps. With two laps to go, Bradshaw tried to double-jump by Gaddis but got a little out of shape after tangling handlebars with Gaddis. Winn saw his chance and blew by both riders for second. After that, the battle cooled off with Emig taking thewin and overall, while Winn held on for second. Third went to Bradshaw, who was closely chased by Langford, Schultz, Trittler and Antunez. Having two points going into Sunday's run-offs, Langford ended up with the low point overall and captured the I05cc 12-plus class victory over Simmet. Bradshaw won Saturday's race but crashed on the first lap while leading Sunday's event and wound up taking 11th overall. After Bradshaw crashed, Emig took over the lead, which he held for five laps. It was a three-way dice for those five laps between Emig, Langford and Simmet. Simmet was on the gas and jammed by Langforlil (hrough a-sec- ~ \ "- ,• " e ~ c..o 00 O"l ...... ~ r:- C'f .....
