WERA returns to Watkins Glen By John Dumas WATIqNS GLEN, NY, AUG. 2 The Western Eastern Roadracers Association (WERA) hosted a regional points race at the infamous Watkins Glen today for what many hope will not bejusta one time event. .For those lucky enough to have been there, watching motorcycles race on what has, for years, been exclusively an automobile track proved extremely interesting. The racing in most cases was very close with onl y fractions of a second separating firsl and second and even when someone did manage to get out in front all alone the ballie was for second place, but there was always a contest to watch. WERA raced at the Glen a few years ago and the di[[erences this time were staggering. With Daytona International Speedway and Corning now owning the track billboards which a few years ago were mere skeletons now displayed the names of well known companies associated grass around tfie track and in the infield was cut this time as opposed to being knee high as . b f It was e ore. The day's racing started with the Clu~man cl~ss with Keith "Yakefied gellmg out m front and addmg four to five seconds to his Lead every lap . unu] the checkered flag [ell. B Superbike came out with one of h d d the larger classes of t e ay an twO racers set lhe pace for any event in which they were entered when Jeff James and Chris Martone showed the other 22 bikes in the class their taillights as they battled for first place. C Production Novice started with 26 bikes in the grid and ended with Doug Tosten taking the checkered [Jag eight laps later around the short course (2.4 miles while lhe full crack is 3.57 miles.).
