~'honors. John arcen placed iliird . overall and took the series point lead away from absent Grant Wood. In l25cc Amateur racing, Leachmon was never headed en route to his perfect score. Meanw hile, Chris Tucker and Shane Graham waged war for second. Tucker finished ahead of Graham both times to claim the trophy. At the halfway mark in the eries, Graham holds a 12-point lead over Keith Almond. The opening 125cc ovice moto was a thriller. Going into the third turn after the start, Jim Hardy moved into the lead while, in the same turn, series leader Johnny Ware crashed from third to 10th posi tion. By the end of the second lap, Reggie Cantrell had secured the lead; Todd Wall pressured Hardy in econd and Ware had come back to fourth. On the ixth and final lap, Cantrell was long gone for the win and Wall held second with Hardy and Ware in close tow. In the left-hand sweeper preceeding the home straight, Ware dove under Hardy for second spot. Attempting to hold off Ware, Wall crashed over the following doublejump, giving second place to Ware over Hardy. Wall was injured and did not finish. Cantrell repeated his runaway performance in moto two and Ware finished 2-2 for second over Tony Burgess' 6-3. Hardy tallied 3-9 to net seventh overall; Hardy trails Ware in the series. Series leader Robbie Taylor holehot the first 250cc/Open Pro moto, IUt crashed hard on the first lap. Tayor suffered a bad cut inside his nouth and was sidelined for the evening. Mark Ashworth went unchallenged to a perfect score over Ken Teddards and jumped from fifth to second in the point race. Phil Hayes edged Vince Hardy in a close race for the 65cc Mini win. Edge WHITEHORSE, Y.T., CANADA, JULY 11-13 Erik Munson from Fairbanks, Alaska, garnered the overall win and title of all around motorcycle dirt racer of the Far Northwest. Rider; from Alaska, British Columbia, Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territories raced for three days in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in the Northern Motorcycle Olympiad. Results from three forms of dirt racing: TT, cross country and motocross, are tallied to determine the champion. Jim Stewart/Suzuki Motorcycle &: Marine-sponsored Munson had to defend his 1985 Race of Champions title from number one contender Rob Kana 01 Whitehorse, Kolla beat rival Trent Haggard in the highly competitive 250cc Expert class. Munson elected to ride in the 125cc class however, and each went head-to-head in the Pro class main. Kolla took the early lead with Henning's Yamaha-sponsored Haggard close behind. Munson, not known for his quick starts, found himself in midpack but working up quickly. By the halfway mark Munson was on Haggard's tail but an off the track excursion by Haggard left Munson in second. M\lnson gained a litlle on each lap and just before the checkered used some lapped riders as blockers to pass Kolla. Haggard followed in Munson's draft to take second. The next day's 44-mile cross country was through light trees and lots of muddy muskeg. Kolla is the Canadian master of woods racing and took off to the early lead in tqe Expert class. His lead was shortened to only five seconds by the first checkpoint by Andy Workman from Fairbanks, Alaska. Workman on a Northern Power-Sports Suzuki was a complete underdog for this event. Especially considering he was 125cc mounted while most of his competition was on 250s. The two stayed within two seconds of each other the rest of the race, but a loose brake-stay arm slowed Workman enough to let Kolla win with a litlle breathing room. Munson finished almost eight minutes behind Kolla and Workman to take third. The motocross was held on the last day and as expected moto-master Munson took top honors by winning the 125cc, 250cc Expert and Pro classes. The hosting club, The Midnite Sun Dirt Riders, ran a three- r----------• . nrotl'l l'lrmat 50 unson ra moe motels (or "tne day. To top it 6ff the Pro class went 20 laps, but iron man Munson loved it and won every moto. With Munson ahead and running away only second place was left open and locals Kolla and Haggard batlled for it. Haggard took it in the 250cc Expert class while Kolla did it in the Pro class. Quietly winning every 500cc class of the weekend, Bruce tingley of Anchorage, Alaska, led Team Anchorage to the top team victory. T earn Whitehorse came in second over Munson's Team Fairbanks.
