Chandler dominates Los Banos ST By Mike Vancil LOS BANOS, CA, JULY 5 The entire racing world of motorcycles has to have heard or read about Doug Chandler, but they mayor may not know that a young and even more determined Chandler from Salinas is ready to embark upon a Professional racing career. Hard-charging Kurt Chandler put the 500cc Expert class behind him in quick order at the R &: DEnterprises promoted shoTt track today. Chandler's success was forwarned when he also handily won the heat race in which he did not enjoy a holeshot into the first corner. Coming out of the second corner he had the lead and never had to look back. In the final Chandler put his Honda into the lead and rode a picture-perfect race, never once allowing even a peek for second placer Kris Kiser. The approximate one-fifth-mile fairgrounds oval was a challenge for the inside line and mid track developed into a very hard, slippery surface while the outside line was moist and slippery. Chandler showed true maturity as he didn't seem lo have a problem negotiating the course. Other class action in the Pepsi Cola and Stroh's Beer-sponsored Series, which enjoys AMA sanction, saw Gary Vincelet ride the best race of hiS 1986involvement in flat track racing. Vincelet completely dominated the Junior final in the 500cc class. In the Junior flat the repeated stabs of pass attempts by Kevin Crowley on a Honda really kept Vincelet on the gas and on his toes. Vincelet repeatedly demonstrated that he has track savvy and used only those portions that were being sought [or by second place, challenger, Kevin Crowley. Results PEe WEE: 1. Jeff Gabhart(Yam); 2. M/CTIREWORKS NEILLSVILLE, WI, JULY 5 The Motorcycle n ... The Wisconsin Harley-Davidson Dealers Association's HalfMile Pro-Am race at Neillsville saw 83 racers show up for the first motorized sport on the track since the last motorcycle race four years before. Greg "Waggy" Wagenknecht completely dominated the 250cc Pro-Am class, winning both his heat and the final with a daring outside line around the loose, rough half-mile oval. Mark Gruner, winner of the other 250cc Pro-Am heat, battled with "Waggy" for all eight laps, but when it counted, Wagenknecht held the point. Gruber finished second, while a surprising third was Pro-Am nder Troy Hepfner. Wagenknecht and Gruber picked up their ballle where it left of[ in the 500cc Pro-Am class. Tim Pratt and Danny Powell helped make it a four rider ballie for eight laps. Prall opened up a slight lead on lap six and was never headed lo the finish. Wagenknecht finished second ahead of Powell and Gruber. The 750cc Pro-Am class belonged solely to Art Mischler, as he led every lap in the final. Joe Houpt tried every move he could think of to move his Harley past Mischler's Triumph, but Houpt ran out of time and lOok second. Gus Feind finished third. Dave Durrelle finished third in his heat race but came back in the final to lead at 10 laps on his 600cc Woods- DUCATI F-1s Ire herel .1986 rOOdels in stock .nd Wheel Spaclallats Sa.
