of public land to the currently mandated multiple use concept. We must not allow this elitist legislative proposal to become law. Join the millions of California's outdoor recreationists who support your views, and support our opposition to Senate Bill S2061. WARD CUMBIE Laguna Hills, CA Smooth-talker Cranston I'm sending a copy of a letter that I received from Senator Alan Cranston. Boy, is he a smooth talkerl But I sure can't go along with anything he says, especially "as determined by the BLM" or "Nor does the bill prohibit the annual Barstow-to-Vegas motorcycle race." I've seen comments and letters to the contrary in Cycle News and various other off-road magazines. Regardless, I wanted everyone to see how Senator Cranston is responding to the "off-road vehicle enthusi· asts" comments (complaints) about S2061. SUSAN WILDAY Azusa, CA Reader Wilday received Cranston's standard form-letter reply ... Editor. #96 says th.na B.il.y.dd..... I enjoy reading your articles very much and Team Smilly and Motocross Cat, too. I wondered if you could send me an address where I could write David Bailey. I would like him to read the letter personally. AARON YOUNG Morley, MI You can write to David Bailey c/o Gary Bailey's MX School, P.O. Box IJO, A xton, VA 240H-OIJO ... Editor. Sen.tori.1 reply del.ys Allached is a copy of my leller to Senators Wilson and Cranston regarding Cranston's S2601. My letters were mailed on April 3; Wilson responded on May 22 with a non-eommittal fonn leller. Cranston's reply took three months and I would have expected that in that length of time the good Senator would have checked out the spelling of Dumont and Glamis. Please, once again, alert your read- ers to the urgency of writing to Senators Wilson and Cranston and expressing opposition to this bill. WARD CUMBIE Laguna Hills, CA Reader Cumbie's letter to Senator Wilson is printed below. Senator Cranston's form-letter reply to letters from o//-roaders uses "Galamis Dunes" and "Dummont Dunes" for Glamis Dunes and Dumont Dunes ... Editor. Letter to Sen.tor Wilson My family, friends'and myself urge you to oppose Senator Cranston's S2061 and any other legislation that would lock us out of public lands by creating new wilderness where it doesn't exist, establish new and unneeded national parks or transfer management of public lands from federal to state jurisdictien. We are all aware that Cranston has been a pawn of the radical preservationists for years and that his proposed legislation will serve their needs by effectively closing 9.5 million acres I I I I ERIC RAUSCH Middletown, DE KTM testimonial While practicing for the Mammoth Motocross, the rear shock on my 1985 KTM 500 broke. I was 300 miles from my dealer so in desperation I called KTM America in EI Cajon, California. Not only did they assure me that they would warranty the defective shock (remember, this is a one-yearold MX bike), they found a used shock in their warehouse and sent it to me next day air UPS.
