Excellent weather and great
track conditions set the stage
for some exciting racing today
as riders from all over the east

coast gathered at David Bailey's Lake
Sugar Tree motocross track for the
Amateur ponion of the Pepsi Budseiser Nationals. Jeff Stanton and
Patrick Slate emerged as the big
winners for the day as both took two
class wins.
Stanton and Mike Jones battled for
rirst moto of the 250cc class. Stanton
was in charge or the lead position.
Jones worked his way through traffic
and pressured Stanton, but Stanton
took the win and the overall.
Scott McClain led the first moto of
the Open A class followed by Mike
Ryan, Sam Buchalter and Stanton.
Stanton quickly moved to second,
but couldn't catch McClain until
McClain stalled his motor in the
whoop section. This gave Stanton
the lead and a clear shot at the win.
The second moto saw Buchalter
with the early lead followed by Stanton and Tim Barnes. Stanton.pushed
Buchalter and slipped by at the halfway mark and cruised in for the win.
Mike Parker took the overall in the
125cc A class with his 1-2 score. He
easily won the first moto over Paul
Bell and Aaron Bollinger. The second
moto saw Parker grab the holeshot,
but Gerald Wood led at the end of lap
one. Parker and Wood swapped the
lead several times, but in the end
Wood won the moto. Parker's second
placing was good enough for the
overall.
Yamaha rider Slate dominated two
classes of Amateur racing taking all
four of his motos with style. He
topped Ben Ricks in the 65cc class
and Brad McKee in the Junior Mini
class.
Ray Tyndal won the l25ccmain by
winning his qualifier and the final.
Dwane Miller took second overall for
the day with a 4-2 score.
Steve Childress and Hank Moree
put on an impressive show in the
Senior Mini class. Damon Bradshaw
had bike problems and was left on the
line while Childress and MoreepuJled
away rrom the pack as they doubled
the giant doubles. Moree heW the
lead and won the first moto. In second
moto, Childress started in hont and
held it to the win, to take the overall.
Bradshaw made up ror his problems in the Mini class by winning
both motos of the I 25cc B class. Cary
Holton led the first moLO umil he
crashed in the whoops. He recovered
to finish third behind Danny Payne.
Holton came back to take second in
the second moto.
Jay Hayes won the qualifier in the
250cc A class and came back and won
the main event leaving no doubt in
anyone's mined that he was the [astest man in the class.
Jason Coleman and Rusty Sayres
bauled in the 250cc B class, but Coleman passed in both moLO and took
the win. Mark Williamson and William Allen each won a moto in the
Open Amateur class, but Williamson
took the overall. Ron Jones easily
won the Senior class and Buddy HoIland LOpped the Super Senior.
