Huff tried four times on each of the last three laps, but his attempts each fell short and Knuth earned the winner' share with Huff haH a length back in second with Wymond Schleyhahn third and Dale Hibbs fourth. The Senior final belonged to Les Eslinger. He blasted into the lead at the flash of the green and was never seriously challenged. Jess Robinson worked his way into second in the middle laps over Ron Wade and Dave Stanfield. Stanfield and Wade battled for the third spot throughout with Stanfield getting the nod at the checkers. Poovey hot at Devils Bowl HM nly on Thursday Only at flSCOT By Bob Bagwell DALLAS, TX, JULY 13 The hot Texas sun was no match for the AMA Wild West Half Mile at Devils Bowl Speedway. Terry Poovey was the winner of the Expert main while Billy Herndon topped the Dash for Cash. Poovey and Herndon won the Expert heat races and the semi went to Scolly Adams. Poovey and his Hud Racing-backed Harley-Davidson XR 750 jumped into the lead of the 20,rider, l2-lap main event, followed by Herndon and Kris Armentrout. Adams went high on the cushion in an attempt to sweep by the leaders on the outside but he couldn't pull it off. Adams then moved down to the groove to put pressure on Armentrout and Nicky Fontana, who were dueling for third behind Poovey and Herndon. The Poovey vs. Herndon clash had the crowd standing as the two battled side-by-side for the front spot. Behind them Adams got by Armentrout and Fontana to take over third for good. Poovey had command of the lead when the white flag came out and the Texan held on to top Rotax-mounted Herndon, who finished second ahead of third place finisher Armentrout. Fontana took fourth with Mike Hale and Rusty Gourley finishing fifth and six, respectively, after a race-long duel. The Dash for Cash was an aU Camel Pro Series rider event with Poovey, Herndon, Adams and Armentrout coming to the line for the four--'ap race which has proven itself very popular with the fans. The four dove into the first turn side-by-side, but it was Herndon out front heading down the back chute. Poovey and Adams went low on Herndon into turn three, but Herndon held them off and went on to win. Adams, Poovey and Armentrout finished 2-3-4. .. tho ASCOT SlIck Track, - . ..
