CA (ala) a.3-7806 (213) 539-4150 upP'R By Russ Cazier PORTLAND, OR, JU E 22 Canadian Tom Walther passed up a race at Westwood, B.C. to dominate an Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association meet at Portland International Raceway. Walther duplicated Keith Pink· staff's feat of the previous race day by winning Open Production, Superbike and F-I Walther and Pinksta[[ put on a good show in each of their six heats of racing. but Walther won every heat by several bikeJengths. WalLher said. "I hate to miss a race at Westwood. but it's hard 10 pass up a chance at that big Suzuki contingency money." His win in Open Production and a second place in 750cc Production were worth $1500. Not only did Pinksta£[ not win Open Production, but twice-in-a-row winners of 750cc Production and the Interceptor class Je[[ Morrow and Mike Johnson both crashed out of the money. Joe Pittman took the 750 win handily against a strong field. Of the 1gentries in 750cc Production, 18 were GSXR750s. The previous weekend. PIR was host to the Indy car in the Ro e Cup and the track was made treacherous by globs of rubber and spots of oil. There was a resulLing rash of crashes, but fortunately no serious injuries. Dick Wascher wa leading the Interceptor class when an oily crash brought out the red £lag. Wa cher passed the red £lag at the start-finish at racing speed and was docked a lap. The race was over half completed and ended there. giving Steve ipe the win and $700 of Honda contingency money. Michael Given and Jeff Doan were haring ride on Cli£[ Baker's RZ350 Cafe bike. Given won the first heat of 600cc Cafe and Je£[ Doan followed with a win in 450cc Cafe. Doan and Baker were less than delighted when Given fell victim to the unpredictable traction and crashed while in the lead in the second heat of 600cc Cafe. Doan said. "1I·s hard 10 get very mad at Mike. I've been shiny side down myself a few times on this track, and it was really slippery in spots." The longest win streak at PIR (five wins) is now owned by Ward Rodgers, racing a BMW in Open BoTT. Dick Winningstad, using his back·up twin shock 750 Cagiva which he says is fa ter than his new mono-shocker, made a race of it and led briefly in the second heat, but Rodgers stu[[ed him in turn one on the sixth lap to regain the lead and take the win. Howard Pinkstaff celebrated his 65th birthday by garnering a third place trophy in Open Single GP. Results OPEN PROD: 1. Tom Walther (Suz); 2. Keith Pinkstaff (Suz); 3. Boyeson rips Sleepy Hollow MX By Pete Keiser FREDERlCKSBURG, P A, JUNE 29 Dag Boyeson continued racking up D-6 points with a second place in the 250cc Expert class and a win in the Open Expert class in the Senoma Club Special at Sleepy Hollow Motocross Park. Mteran unusually slow start, Boyeson moved up everal places 10 finish fifth in the first maLO of the 250cc race. Chris Coleman took his holeshot and led all the wa y to the finish in that maLO, followed by Kenneth Heslin. In the second mOlO, Coleman was forced out of the competi tion by what appeared to be seized bearings in the rear wheel of his Kawasaki. Meanwhile, Boyeson was tearing up the track moving from the seventh position into the lead just before the halfway point in the 3G-minuted molO. He held the lead over Jimmy Hauer's Honda and Heslin's Kawasaki, in that order. Heslin's 2-3 gave him the overall win, with Boyeson grabbing second. Hauer scored a 4·2 for third place. On his Open bike, Boyeson'started sixth in the first maLO. With power and finesse. he worked his way up to the lead by the fourth lap. He was passed however, just six turns from the finish by Michael Moore. Bob Sorenson's smooth ride earned him third. The second molO featured the same names in lhe LOp spots, but
