Everyone can see perfectly well if Ihey would Slay in Iheir seal. I doubt il if there is a solution. W~ will not be there nexl year because of Ihi.s problem, and our $30 probably will not be missed. HEETER Brookville, OH Cranston replies Finally, Senalor CranslOn has seen fil 10 wrile me back. Have you ever heard so much bull in your life? C'mon, fellas, we can'Ilel him do Ihis 10 us. GET MADl TERESA TETREAULT Cypress, CA Cranston's letter to Tetreault is printed below ... Editor. Cranston's letter Many lhanks for your commenlS on S206I, the California Oeserl Proleelion ACI of 1986. I much appreciaIe your commems aboullhe impacI of the legislation in areas currently used by off-road vehicle emhusiasts. As you may know, S2061 designales 82 Bureau of Land Managemenl wilderness areas, upgrades Dealh Valley and Joshua Tree 10 Nalional Parks and adds some adjacenl lands, and creates the Mojave National Park. Some 4.6 million acres of public lands in Ihe California desen would remain available for olher mulliple uses - hUOling, mining, grazing, and mOlOrized recreation - as delermined bythe BLM. In drawing the boundaries of wilderness and park lands, I carefully excluded major areas for OR V use. All existing designaled open areas including Spangler Hills, Dummom Dunes, Johnson Valley, Sloddard Valley, Ocotillo Hills, Plaster City, and Galamis (sic) Dunes among others would remain available. Comrary 10 some repons, the exisling road nelwork in the Saline Valley would remain open 10 vehicles. Also it is not the imention of Ihe bill 10 curtail use of the Mojave Road, a popular and hisloric vehicular roule. Nor does the bill prohibit Ihe annual BarslOw-IoVegas motorcycle race. I know there are other areas o( imeresl 10 ORV users and I am reviewing them. Please be assured Ihal I'll make necessary amendmems 10 Ihe bill to assure adequate areas for off-road vehicle use while prolecling critical scenic, cullural and wildlife resources of the California desert. ALAN CRANSTON WashinglOn, DC Cranston sent this in reply to a letter from reader Teresa Tetreault, but mis-spelled her name as "Theresa Getreaub" ... Editor.
