Cook and Rose, again, ran one-two [or the first five laps of round twO, but Buchli was in third this time. Flesia suffered the bad start this round, and was back in 10th. Buchli passed Rose on lap six, but trailed Cook by seven seconds. Cook cruised on for the next [our laps, but his luck had not changed and he got a rear flat. Buchli roared past the faltering Honda pilot on his way to a five-second victory over Rose. Flesia finished sixth for a third overall. jim Mitchell had lillie trouble winning the Open Pro overall once he took the lead in each moto. He trailed Cliff Fredericks early in round one before pulling away. ScOtt Kilgore eventually passed Fredericks to finish second. Kilgore led for half of round two, but once Mitchell got by he easily pulled away. Andy Atkins also had a perfect I-I day in the 80cc Expert class. In his typically dominant manner he led every inch of the way in both motos. Results eo NOV: 1..... Mi.... (Kowt 2. !tun Br.-v (Kow); 3. Jeremy G_lKow~ eo AM; 1. Bova boogies at Deerfield ST By Kevin George DEERFIELD, OH, MAY 31 John Bova credited tire selection and the ability of his machine to take the low line for his win in Open short track at Deerfield Speedway toni~ht. The johnny's Motorcycle Shop pilot pulled out of a first-lap duel with Rodger Chester and set his sights on Tom Hodges in first. Bova finally got a wheel inside of Hodges on lap four going into turn one and when they hit the backstraight it was Bova out from. "I changed the back tire after practice and it made all the difference. I knew if I gOt inside of Tom I could pass him. He was moving up a little higher each lap so I JUSt waited until he gave me plenty of room," Bova said. Bova held a four-length lead after passing Hodges and wheelied to his feature win. Hodges came back for an easy win in the 250cc class. Ernest Berry had all the power he needed but couldn't seem to get it to hook up and had to settle for second, jay Snodgrass had a fine ride on his 125ccSuzuki to finish third. . Only three cycles signed up for IT action with Rodger Chester taking that race, run right after practice. It looked to be a close race until Hodges fell after trading places with Chester severa] times. Berry still couldn't get that power hooked up. Berry finished second and probably [eJtlike he rode a bull around the track. • Results OPEN ST: 1. John 80..; 2. Tom Hodges; 3. Rodger Chester. 250 ST: 1. Tom Hodges; 2. Ernest Barry; 3.
