Sisemore came up with the proper line for the last three laps and took the narrow win over Bast and Prince. Murphy scored a dear win in the Pro 750cc Superbike final, and then bauled throughout the Pro Open Superbike Feature (similar lO AMA Formula One) lO take a slim win. Riding a Brooklin Cycle/Weld Rite/McBride's Suzuki-sponsored GSXR750, Murphy raced throughout the feature WIth the similar GSXR of Formula II Champ Claude Leroux, sponsored by Moto joumal/MolO International/RockeL The twO Suzuki's were equal on power, but Murphy exploited a breaking advantage lO gradually wear Leroux down. In the early laps jean Paquet joined the leading pair with his production Suzuki GSXRII 00, and its incredible power allowed Paquet lO make up time on the long from straight that he lost in the tight infield sectio,?s. Evemually Paquet fell out of the battle for the lead, but stayed just ahead of a wild baule for fourth. From the start, Paul MacMillan (production Honda VFR750), DernckMedaglia (GSXRI lOOSuperbike), Bob Bergman (ex-factory McMurter Honda Interceptor), Steve Nelson By Bill Spencer FREMONT, CA, JUNE 22 After a layoff of some 16 years, real live scrambles racing returned in earnest to Baylands Raceway Park. A new half-mile (GSXR750 Superbike) and Don Vance (Suzuki 1100 Superbike) disputed fourth, switching positions several times a lap. Having finally sorted Oul his Suzuki, Medaglia moved to the from of the pack on what was potentially the fastest bike in the field. Bergmann, Nelson and MacMillan became the chief antagonists in the baule for fifth, with Bergmann getting the spot after Nelson ran off the track. For Bergamann, the results was especially pleasing. A second year Pro and third year roadracer, Bergmann had been struggling with a Yamaha FZ750 Superbike before sponsor Rueben McMurter asked to borrow the FZ engine, offering Bergmann one of the '85 McMuner interceptors in return. With a properly set up machine, Bergmann vaulted from the back of the pack to the front, receiving a much-needed bOOst in confidence. Earlier in the day, Murphy pulled away from Leroux to take a clear win in the 750cc Superbike round. Leroux was safe in second, but fan favorite! MacMillan bauled his way through die pack to nail down third, not far behmd Leroux. Riding his stock Interceptor, MacMillan currently leads the 750cc Superbike poims chase, even though it wasn't raining this weekend! The closest racing at Sanair was in the Pro Production classes, where protests decided some of the lOp placm~s. Paquet won the Pro Open Production final after MacMillan crashed while leading, MacMillan pushing his bike lO the maximum to make up in the comers what Paquet gained (by numerous bikelengths) on the straights. MacMillan was unhurt, but couldn't restart his undamaged but flooded bike. AI Royer worked his way to second on his Suzuki RGSOO. with Mario DuHamel JUSt behind on another Gamma in third. Pro 750cc Production gave MacMillan a perfect four-for-four record in Wt class, taking a come-frombehind win over early race leader Tom Douglas. Douglas was riding the wheels off his Yamaha FZ750, but MacMillan got by with his ImerceplOr. Douglas thrilled the crowd by taking the lead in front of the grandstands haH way through the first lap, stuffing it under early leader DuHamel. Douglas still gOt second, while DuHamel was third on the Wal~er Wolf Gamma. Dakota. Todd Schoenberner shot inlO the lead at the start of the first 125cc B moto, followed by Kelly Ragels and Will. Will then slipped paSt Ragels to challenge Schoenberner. As the three diced, Rich Lundstrom worked his way up to the point of breaking imo the battle, making it a foursome lOSS up. Lundstrom stormed past Ragels and began pressuring Will and Schoenberner. Schoenberner struggled lo hold off Will and Lundstrom but was unsuccessful. Will went past, then Lundstrom motored by, leaving a disappointed Schoenberner to settle for a third-place finish behind Will and Lundstrom. In moto two, Schoenberner again took the holeshot, but this time was followed by Willie Nash and Lundstrom. Nash quickly made his move and zipped past Scboenberner. Lundstrom concentrated on blowing past Scboenberner. Will blew past Ragels and Lundstrom then rushed past Schoenberner to take over second place. Lundsuom stayed in third after shoving Scboenbemer inlO the fourthplace position and Ragels into fifth. Ragels apparently was unhappy with the change in positions and ended up passing Schoenberner. Nash went on to take the win of the second moto aI1ead of Will, Lundstrom, Ragels, and Schoenberner. Results Results AMATEUR 125 GP: 1. RicII Cowier (Hanl; 2. Millo Buoby lV.m); 3. ~ _lV.ml. F·2: 1.
