Shortly after this point, Rodriguez dropped out of the race when a motor mount broke and the frame crunched w where the rear fender was resting on the rear tire. reeled-in DeCoster and another fierce battle was on, bm this time DeCoster was the mouse. Again, the crowd went wild and two laps from the finish, Smith used an outside line in a turn and powered by DeCoster to the next turn where Smith had the better line. The DeCoster/Smith duel carried them close to the leader Grossi, and on the final lap, Smith was only a few seconds behind. If Smith passed Grossi, Smith wouJd take the overall, but the distance was too great for Smith to make up in the shoTt period of time. Grossi took the win and overall, while Smith took second. DeCoster finished third overall ahead of Lackey (:1-5), Shultz (6-4), Hansen (8-6), Thorwaldsof! (10-7) and Weinert (12-8). In the Pro race, Kawasaki's Ward and Lechien dominated both mows. In the first round, Ward grabbed the holeshotahead of Yamaha's Jim Holley YZ490cc and Lechien. Lechien . charged by Holley during the second lap and found a five-second gap separating him from Ward. In fourth was local favorite Joey Shlag (Honda CR250), followed by Kelly Andris (Honda CR250), Tyson Vobland (Kawasaki KX250) and Shaun Kalos (Honda CR250). Halfway through the race, positions remained the same until Shlag slipped by Holley. At this point, leaders Ward and Lechien were running into. lapped traffic.
