It was easy to see that 500cc Pro Brad McLeod and 250cc Pro Curt Farrar both got holeshots in their Slarts but after Lhat Lhe sian line disappeared in a cloud of dust and a hearty Hi-Yo Yamaha. At least, that's what I Lhink Russ Wageman was yelling as he whipped his Yamaha (IMC Yamaha) into first at Lhe end of lap .0De. McLeod and Mark Nation were still very close behind Wageman. "Gentleman" jim Holley on a Yamaha Motor Corp. machine was already pulling away from Lhe other 250cc Pros and jim Pappe, riding a Winkel Motorworks Honda, was leading the. l25cc Pros. Nothing much changed through lap five. Wageman maintained a good lead over everyone except Holley, who had opened up a big lead over the 250s and was slowly reeling in Wageman. Holley suddenly disappeared and was spotted halfway around the course, pushing it in. His chain tensioner had broken and the chain promptly wove itself into a steel doormat. With Holley outof the way, Wageman had no challengers and he flew on in for Lhe win. When Holley retired, joe Hopkins assumed Lh.e lead in Lhe 250cc Pros and got that WID. Back in Lhe 125s, Willie Surran had laken the lead from Pappe on lap two and led until lap six, when he left the track and didn't return. Rich Truchinsky had followed SUITat~ up to Lhe front and also took the lead from Pappe after Surratt left. Truchinsky took Lhe 125cc Pro win, followed by Pappe. .
