Knapp LUDLOWVILLE, NY, JUNE I AMA National Championship Hilc'mb· Series: Round 2 Hale, Yoder fop Jefferson Chris Coleman (554), Dan portz (132) and Charlie Colemen (120) squeeze through the first turn in the 125cc Expert class at Hurricane Hills.. Louie Bolupie won the AMA District 4 trials at Fedorka Farms, for his third win in a row here. Runner-up Chris Arnold was only three points back but couldn't muster up enough momentum to catch Bolupie. Back in the Advanced group, Jody Bliss LOok on Cecil Hollien and had a six-point lead at the end. A real nice win came to Kevin Kunkle in the Senior B class with a 62-point score over Ron Bor's 94. This score also beat all the Novice class riders where fireman Mark Swan hosed down his competition with a 70-point score. Again D-4 had a turnout of over 50 riders with the Diny Dabbers from Pennsylvania showing up with their antique bus sponing all new paint. As far as the course went, a heavy downpour the night before had clerk Steve Fedorka working LO get all sections rideable and that he did. Other than a deep creek crossing no real problems occured. For the Novices, section nine was a real heartbreaker as the exit was very steep out of a creek and had a step then a large log LO get over. This one got many a five from all but the best. For the Experts, section three was the toughest. This was just one slippery section which required momentum to carry through it. Section nine and section II were really nice with vertical waterfalls and slab rock, but good traction all the way. _By Maxine Casey JEFFERSON, PA, JUNE I •. He moved steadily through the pack, and before the end of the moLO he had come from 20 seconds behind inLO second pla'ce behind McLean. MOLO two saw McLean go to the point with Pinney, McMillen, Spear, Weinberg, Boyesen and Sorenson freight training behind. McMillen moved into second on the third lap and kept trying to get a wheel in front of McLean without much luck. But on the next to last lap, McLean, who was suffering from cramps, let McMillen by for the win and overall vicLOry. McLean took second in front of Pinney, Spear, Boyesen and Weinberg. Coleman swept both mOlOS of the 250cc Expert class, with McMillen second in the first moLO and the runner-up in the second moto. Results SR EX: 1. Jeff Thompson (Han): 2. Joseph Yagloski (Yam); 3. Zahrt, Semics ace - Perris MX" - By Terry Rezek 56 Results PERRIS; CA, JUNE 1 CRC held the se€Ond in its four-race Dunestown Series at Perris Raceway. The first race, last week at LACR, was a Grand C Prix, while taday's event and the remainder are motocrosses. The series is treated almost like a separate season with continge.n9' prizes at every race and a total of $15,000 in prizes for the series. The riders turned out in force for their shot at the gold and the green. A couple of old CRC regulars returned to the I 25cc. Pro wars. Jimmy Palmer got first and Willy Musgrave took second but neither rode the first race of the series. That leaves Rich Truchinski's third today and first last . week looking mighty good. ' Ken Zahrt came out of hiding to pick two firsts today; a 2-1 in the 250cc Pro class gave him that overall , win while total domination of the ... ...... Vets class gave him another overall victory. Gary Semics had no problems winning both moLOS of the 500cc Pro class. In the Women's division, regular Tina Zahrt won both moLOS in the Novice class, tying her in the series point standings with Nancy Willie. Brenda Conner swept the Expert class motos while Mindy Smith and Sherry Fogerty split Intermediate division mOlOS with Fogerty taking the overall. Stan Hase outpointed the opposition to win the 125cc Novice class. With his second last week he's well ahead in the series standings for thal class. Greg Perolio LOok both moLOS for the overall in the 250cc Novice class, but with a first last week and a fourth today, Ken Neitzel Will probably top the series. Although last Sunday's MX took place one day before the DunesLOwn series started, Kelly Doyle started his hot streak with a win, slowed LO third in the series opener', and then came back to take both motos in today's 500cc Novice class competition. There aren't many riders in the 125cc Intermediate class who ride both Grand Prix and MX. Even though David Church swept both motos in taday's MX, Chris Radzinsky and Scott Murphy had consistent finishes in both events to date and are likely near the top of the series. I Kevin Brown won the 250cc Intermediate class today with Rusty Hannah second, but David Bagwell's third today looks good when combined with his first last week. Ray Groom stomped on the 500cc Intermediate class, taking both motos. Bagwell was baf'k in this class with a strong second. _ PEE WEE A: ,. Robby Hammond (V.m). PEE WEe- B: 1. CaaAr G.I_ (Yamt. 2. When the dust cleared on the 280-£00t hill at J eHerson, David· Hale and JeH Yoder, respectively, had won the 500cc and 750cc classes at the National Hillclimb. The temperature was in the 90s and nitro-methane fumes hung so thick around the starting log that several riders reported leaving the starting line light-headed. Rod Riddle had to walk away from his bike for a breat\l. of fresh air before riding. But the competition was tough with the lead in both classes in doubt until the last man had ridden. BSA rider Riddle held the 500cc lead at the end of the first round with Greg Williams just thousandths of a second behind him. Williams, aboard his STP Special Honda, was slower on his second allempt so Riddle's time held until Hale and his Triumph, riding in the 11 th spot, zipped over the hill in 6.71 seconds. Riddle's second attempt was slower but the first ride time-of 6.89 held for second place and Williams finished third. BSA rider Tim Frazier was fourth with a 6,98 ride. Competition in the 750ccclass was really tough with the lead changing several times and only 0.26 seconds separating first and seventh p'ace. Harley-Davidson-mounted Yoder rode the hill in 6.39 seconds, just edging out his father-in-law, Lou Gerencer, who too'k his Harley between the timing lights in 6.42 seconds. Third place went LO BSA rider James Clark with a 6.47 ride. Tom Reiser, on a Harley, was fourth with a 6.48-second blast. .. The winning ride in the 750ccclass for the spring hilldimb at Jefferson in 1985 was 6.74 seconds. That would have been good for eighth at this meet. Hillclimbers' Associa.tion president Conley Newsome added to the thrills and spills when heandhis 75OccTriumph fell about 4.0 feet back down. the side of the hilI after' Passing. through the timing lights. His ,6.5.7 ride was good f()r fi hh. Sixth place finisher Doyle Disbennell nose-dived his Yamaha through the lights in 6.61 seconds and Charlie Casey, 'on a Yamaha, was seventh with a 6.65 ride. '., Ev.eryone else rode out, the first breaker but Beeze Wendt jumped it with his Harley-Davidson. Problems on the rest of the course' slowed him to 7,07 and a ninth-place fipish. Newcomer Jack Yeck had the crowd cheeri~gwildly when he somersaulted his Norton off the 'first breaker. Results 500cc; ,. Davicl H.le (Trili 2. Rod R _ IBSAt. 3. Greg Williams (Han); 4.
