During lap five Bnll dropped out of the race with Coleman taking the lead and win. Back in third place Charlie Coleman was able to hold off Rick Pinney. On the stan of moto two it was Brill again in the lead, but by lap three Chris Coleman had moved by Denman for second. Shortly Chris Coleman was within striking distance of Brill. On lap four Chris Coleman doubled a set of jumps no one had dared before. With that move, Chris Coleman took over the lead. Denman began to pressure Brill near the end of the race and he, too doubled the jumps to take second place. In overall results it was Chris Coleman, Bill Denman, Rick Pinney and Charlie Coleman. Rob Nessel rode his Kawasaki to a perfect double moto win in the 125cc A~ateur c~ass. Jeff Armstrong took a pan of third-place molO finishes to take second overall. In the Schoolboy class, Kawasaki rider Mike Dries led each lap with ~~ ~axl:"ell following him to the hmsh Ime m moto one. Dries found the fastest line around the track in moto two and soared to the win. Carr takes Lake Whitney win By Marc Jenkins LAKE WHITNEY, TX, MAY 25 Chris Carr and Chad Mayo played cat and mouse in the 125cc Novice class at Lake Whitney today, but when push came to shove it was Carr taking the win. The first moto got underway under threaming skies with Mayo taking the early lead. Carr tucked in behind with Jason Matus, Snookie Tinnerman and Brad Morgan following suit to round out the top five. Bump and run was the order of the day and Carr soon took over from Mayo with Morgan holding third. Meanwhile, the midpack action was fantastic as riders fell, remounted and fell again in the mud. At the checkers it was Carr, Mayo, Morgan, Tinnerman and Matus. The sun was out for the second moto and Carr immediately lOok the lead. Mayo jumped into the second slot with Scott Salters and Morgan in lOW. Salters and Morgan wentat it for two laps with Morgan slamming his Kawasaki past Salters to take third at the finish. Carr took the overall with Mayo second, Morgan third, Matus founh and Tinnerman fifth. The Open class got underway with Matt Bracken taking the holeshot. Bracken promptly ran away and hid from the field as Mitch Hulsey, Hank Hodes and Jack Yost battled for second. Hulsey eventually got the nod over Hodes and Yost. The second moto saw a repeat of the first with Bracken taking the holeshot and the win over Hulsey, Hodes and Adams. The Experts and Intermediates were combined and Tim Silence dominated the first molO as he led wire-to-wire. In the second molO, Intermediate class rider Jimmy Spiers surprised the Experts by taking the win. Results MINI: 1. Clinl Carlton; 2. Brad WoOl say; 3. John Mason. eo BEG: 1. Chris Janssen; 2. Curry hooked up for the Handicap main win, holding off Cook while nothing held onto Cook in his Scratch win from the outside. Curry and the B&W Machine shop special showed that he was ready from the first heat in a fine transfer show with Eddie Ingels and Andy Gilbertson. John Houston, Jr., Steve Crawford and Tom Ferris made the switch from heat two while it was Jim Sisemore from heat three along with big Sam Bast and little cousin Bart. John Cook and Duane Yarrow came off the yardage marks to transfer from heat four with Jeff Brown hanging onto the draft. Curry continued witha winin the semi over Houston and Ingels while it was Cook once again demonstrating to the fans what cowboy-style racing looks like to the European fans. Once again, it was lhe Bast boys transferring to the main. Cook's ability to get around Sam Bast is demonstrative of his abilities. Bast, the younger, could fashion a tryout for the 49'er front four and is fast enough to keep most of the big boys at bay when he gets hooked up, but Cook had the grill dialed up for passing and whizzed by with relative ease. Eddie Ingels survived a jump of the Handicap main but it was Curry off 10 the seasoned win with some fine riding. Cook caught upat the checkers but no time for a pass attempt with Bart Bast third over Sam and Houston. Mike Parsons and the Richmond Yamaha/BMW/Jawa topped the first heat of Scratch events over the Napa Valley/Harry's Shop special of Marc Prince. Quaker State/Arai/Hi-Pointsponsored Paul Orlandi had a good gate but got a fender caught and was slowed. Jim Sisemore aced the second heat in fine fashion over Eddie Ingels while John Houston was in style for the third heat over Duane Yarrow. Sam Bast had the pole in the fourth heatwith Steve Martin riding off the outSIde. Cook pulled off one of his masterful shots riding around the outside of Martin who was already outside. Cook took the win wilh Martin second and lots of whoopies from lhe assembled. Sisemore gated for the first semi win with Martin surviving another harrowing ride around the wide line while Ingels crashed out of the other semi and Houston got way wide. Cook took over and won with ease dragging Price along 10 the main_ Prince lOok the top slot for the gold ball draw with Cook on the outside. Martin again slid into number two with Sizemore next 10 him. In a classic g:ate, Cook was gone from the high hJ)e and showed why he is one of the top draws in speedway, winning in big time fashion over Martin and Sizemore. Results SCRATCH MAIN: 1.
