One thing that is becoming Lrue at CoSLa Mesa in 1986 is the fact Laht if Alan "Crazy" Christian wins the Handicap main event, ScOlly Brown has led it most of the way. Friday night Brown, who gOl on Lhe program as a reserve, hopped into the lead at Lhe SLan and was leading a freight train consisting of Mark Dwyer, Christian, Steve Lucero, Faria and Kei th Chrisco. It was a single-fi Ie procession, with Brown at the he-dd of the pack until turn four on lap four, when Dwyer shot through for the lead on the inside. In Lhe end, when push came to shove, Schwartz got in the decisive shove and the win was his. Schwaru was off Lhe pole for the startofthe main on a very heavy Lrack wiLh a deep outside. As usual, when Schwartz comes from Lhe pole, he rocketed into the lead wiLh Steve Lucero, Pfetzing and Lhe "Snakeman" KeiLh Larsen giving chase. Lucero tried to sneak by using Lhe inside route on Lhe hack chute, but Schwanz shut him down. At Lhe same time. Pfeuing decided to gamble in the dirt and he hooked up with a tremendous drive. He took second from Lucero at Lhe end of the first revolution and then went after Schwanz. Pfeuing caught 'the leader on the back chute on lap two and they put on a tremendous show for the fans. Schwartz held a slight lead while Pfetzing put everything he had into taming the outside.
