A I6-year-old girl and her 18-year-old boyfriend were robbed while looking for their car, parked in a neighborhood several blocks from the Los Angeles Coliseum, following the Saturday night, June 7 Superbowl of Motocross. When the couple followed one of their assailants into an alley in attempt to recover the girl's purse, the resulting incident saw the girl shot to death as she and her boyfriend attempted to flee. Following the tragedy, race promoters Stadium Motorsports Corp. issued a statement from President Jeanne Sleeper, which read in its entirety "Stadium Motorsports is deeply saddened by the death of a spectator after last Saturday's Supercross. Miss Suzanne Coleman had left the stadium following the event and was assaulted in a nearby neighborhood, apparently by someone not associated with the race. The Los Angeles Coliseum is the birthplace of Supercross and has hosted many prestigious sporting events, including the Olympics.
