Curt Comer was fifth in the National on a Beta. Speinerd Jordi Tarres won his first World Championship Trials. penalty points moved him back to sixth. Kip Webb, seventh after the first lap, stayed there for the final tally. Skreen hac\ a terrible second loop to leap backwards to eighth. Andy Saun and Matt Pritchard battled for the ni nth and 10th spots. Pritchard carded a low 23 on the second loop to move up seven places. Former top 10 National rider Bill Burgener scored another Sportsman win; 22 points and 23 cleans easily put Burgener over Kelly Etcherling, who had 40. Greg Jones had second on section points but his six time penalty points moved him to third. Kenny Leduc dropped 25 points on each of his two loops to place fourth. Sven Bley squeezed past Larry Drawhorn for fifth by 0.4 points. A close battle developed in the High School division between Kevin Manniko, Wayne Strohman and Monte Tucker. Manniko, class winner at the first two rounds, led after the firslloop with 22. Back 10 points was Tucker, followed by Strohman with 37. Tucker posted a 32 on the secol)d lap to tie with Manniko, who carded a 42. Manniko picked up his third win after Tucker gained an additional 2.8 points in time penalty to place third. Strohman dropped a low 28 to claim second. Bill de Garis topped the Senior class. Second fell to Ron Sauro over Bob Pick. Jerry Young earned his third win in the Super Senior division. In his first ride of the series, Bill Thompson picked up the Veteran win. • Frenchman Phillipe Berlatier works his Aprilla out of the water into a rocky section; he finished sixth and is fourth in series points.
