San Fernondo. CA (818) 365-6827 Frampton flies Tri-State MJC at By Dale Bohm ROCK SPRINGS, WY, MAY 3 Western Hond.'. Br.d Fr.mpton domin.ted the 126 .nd 260cc Pro cl......t round four of the Tri-St.te Series in Rock Spring•• Wyoming, Netto nabs Bolando FT win By Mike Vancil HOLLISTER, CA, MAY 17 Kenny Netto powered his way to the Pro/Am win, and Robert Miller took top honors in the SOOcc Expert class, during the final round of Lhe AMAlR8cD EnterBeer/Pepsi Cola, HiPOint Flat Track Series, held in Bolado Park. . In the 500cc Expert final, Netto charged to Lhlrd place from mid-field passing Craig Johnson, Bruce Johnson and Ben Zakarian. Netto finished behind recent, regular·winner Tom Carriger who, had to settle for second behind hard-charging, CR Hondamounted "Mad Dog" Miller. Although the front straight on the flat track got hard and fast, the corners remained a little too tacky for highspeed, SIdeways sliding; this enabled riders running knobby tires to gain whatever advantage they lost on the straight. The Pro-Am Expert final brought out many.of the same competitors who made 11 to Lhe 500cc Expert final. Among Lhem was Netto, agam mounted on his potent Can-Am flat tracker. Dean Vincelet, newly named Expert and co-ho.ldet: of the series points lead, was fIrst Into Lhe corner trailed by Garriger and nine other finalist. '!be ha~ riding produced a few spills, mcJudmg a crash by Carriger. He was able to get back up and going but accomplished little. Johnson wh~ ended up in second place, ~ould have rather seen Carriger roll his Suzuki into the pits after the spill. Once underway, Lhe lapped Carriger wouldn't let Johnson by. A blue, move over flag, would have- made Joh~son's evening more pleasureable. WhJle Lhe spills and position changes were going on, Fairfield-based Allen Yarrow moved from sixth to third and Netto moved into Lhe top posi: tion. Netto dove under Bruce Johns~n to take the' lead going into the fIrst turn and was never pressured after that. The action at Bolado Park co~ eluded a five week Hi-Point Series. pri~s/Stroh's Results 36 80 EX: 1. Brian Gipson (Han). 125 BEG 01'1 1: 1. Brian Kerr (Han); 2. Mike Giem (Han). 125 BEG 01'1 2: 1. Peterson pounds Ascot MJC By Mitch Friedman GARDENA, CA, MAY 9 Ron Turner and Todd Peterson once again won the Pro classes at the Dodge Trucks presents CMC night motocross at Ascot Park. Turner and Peterson traded wins in the 250cc Pro motos. Turner won the class overall in front of M-Star-mounted Pete Murray, as Peterson fell in the second molO w~ile leading the first lap. Peterson tried to remount his Midcities Honda b.ut his ba~s were too badly bent t~ nde the bIke. Only six l25cc Pros showed-up, leaving Turner (Yamaha Pro Support/Varner Racing/Bellflower Yamaha/O'Neal USA) two easy wins for another overall. Peterson only had three 500cc Pros to deal with, and ran away from second-place rider Murray. CMC ran the l25cc Pro, 500cc Pro and 500cc Intermediate classes together, with the l25cc elass on Lhe first gate and the 500s on the second gate. Peterson caught the first wave and began to pick his way Lhrough the L25cc class within a few laps of both molOS. Victor Triepke won Lhe 500cc Intermediate class, with a pair of secondplace finishes. Last week's winner, Mall Petro, was second overall with 4-1 scores. Results 60 BEG: 1. JeffWiloh(Kewl; 2. Robby Hammond (Kaw). 80 BEG: 1. Chris Kefalal (Han); 2. Brad Frampton dominated round four of the Plaza Cycle/ Yamaha Tri-State Series held at the Rock Springs County Fairgrounds. Frampton rode flawlessly to capture both Lhe 125 ancl250cc Pro classes, while Terry McGinnis continued his winning ways in Open Pro ac~i~n, literally dusting the compeuuon. In l25cc Pro action, Framptori (sponsored by Western Honda) took the holeshot, followed by Corky Maughan (sponsored by SporlSworld Kawasaki) and Steve Liedberg (sponsored by Tooele Suzuki). Shortly after the start, Liedburg moved into second and a bailIe erupted between Maughan and Liedberg_ Meanwhile, Frampton was pulling away, and by lap three he had a 12-second lead. Moto one ended with Frampton, taking the checkers with over a 20second lead, followed by Maughan Liedberg, Mike Sudweeks and Shaw~ Christensen. Frampton also holeshot moto two, followed by Maughan and Chr'isiensen. Liedberg DNF the second moto because of bike problems. After three laps Frampton once again led by over 20 seconds, winning easily over Maughan, Christensen, SCOll Whitehouse and Mike Andevert. In Open Pro action, Terry McGinnis (sponsored by Plaza Cycle) walked away with the holeshoi. Steve Luczak used his home track advantage and rode smoothly to third just behind an aggressive Rodney Cole. Cole was determined to catch McGinnis, but had to settle for second. Mike Behrman and Steve Hatch followed in fourth and filth. _ McGinnis took another run-away victory in moto two. Wyoming's Gary Kneiper showed his younger competitors what an "old man'; can do, and blasted to second followed by Cole, Luczak and Behrman. In 250 Pro action, Frampton pulled the holeshot, narrowly mIssing a massive first turn pile-up that claimed McGinnis, among other riders. McGinnis was up and running, but not until Frampton had built a substantial lead over the rest of Lhe field. McGinnis fought his way to second place by the moto's end, followed by Rodney Cole, Richard Taft and Troy Brown. Frampton took the holeshot in moto two, followed by George McQuiston (sponsored by Tooele Suzuki) and Troy Brown. McGinnis was again the victim of a first-turn pile-up and started near last.
