(Above) David Bailey rode to a consistent third place. (Below) Bob Haf'!nah had his best National ride in 1986 with a ninth-place finish. (Above) 1986 260cc National Champion Ricky Johnson. (Below) Micky Dymond finished sixth in the first 125cc moto. and won the second. dragged by a traCLOr. No advantage gained. With that aside, the first l25cc moLO got underway with Kawasakimounted Ricky Ryan grabbing the holeshot. Ryan was followed by Australian Jeff Leisk, Willie urrau and Bowen. Geor~e Holland held 13th, Erik Kehoe 18th and Dymond dead last. "I was going LO jump the road jump," Dymond said. "It was congested and I hesitated before Ijumped. I hit bal'S with someone and il spun me around. I was dizzy and I couldn't see. It knocked the wind out of me pretty good." After getting the wind knocked out of him, Dymond set off on a torrid pace - reeling in rider two and three a lap. Lap two saw Bowen move by Surratt to take over second as Leisk had also crashed on the uphill. Bowen was right on Ryan as the pack crossed the line to end lap three. Surratt was also right there with Brooks following. As the top four pulled away from the pack, it was Brooks who was making the biggest impact. The Honda pilot was gaining ground and on lap five he shot from fourth LO second. At this point it was Bowen leading followed by Brooks, Ryan and Surratt. Surratt, however, disappeared on lap seven. By the 10th lap, Dymond was up to 13th after rejoining the fray in 40th. At the end of lap 13, Bowen led Brooks by seven seconds with Ryan still holding third. Holland and Guy Cooper were battHng for fourth with Whiting sixth followed by Tyson Vohlandand Dymond. Thewin went to Bowen over Brooks, Ryan, Hoiland, Cooper, Dymond, Whiting and Kehoe. Under cloudy skies, it was again Ryan taking the holeshotto start the second moLO, but the San Jose, California, rider was pushed wide and it was Holland leading the pack up the big hill: Bowen was 10th. Holland stretched an immediate lead while the pack sorted itself out behind him, but the second lap saw both Cooper and Dymond gaining considerably. Dymond then disposed of Cooper on the hort downhill as the tOP four tightened together. Holland, Dymond, Kehoe and Cooper were all together as they ended lap five. Both Dymond and Kehoe zapped Holland on the big uphiJl to start lap six as Bowen moved into fifth by knocking Brooks off the track in the same spot Ward had earlier nailed Storbeck. Dymond and Kehoe started to pull away from the Holland/Cooper duel while Bowen was closing on the latter. Dymond led Bowen by 12.8 seconds and the factory Yamaha pilot wasn't gaining any ~round. Holland pulled away from Cooper as the Honda ace had his hands full with Bowen; and on lap eight Bowen moved by for fourth. Bowen then set off after Holland and on the 10th lap got by as the Suzuki pilot began a steady fade. Cooper also got by Holland and on lap 12, Leisk also got by. Kehoe put a slight charge on Dy- mond and got to within five seconds, but it was Dymond's moto. Bowen crossed the line third and with it took the overall win. Cooper wa fourth, Leisk fifth, Brooks sixth, Brian Myerscough seventh and A.j. Whiting eighth. • Results 250: 1. Jeff Ward (Kaw) 3-1; 2. Rick Johnson (Han) 1·3; 3. Oavid Bailey (Han) 2·2; 4.
