Vintage winner Dave Roper VIntage Radng. Ropertakes Sears Point Vintage win By Farren Williams SONOMA, CA, MAY 18 Dave Roper of Hicksville, New York piloted his Team Obsolete G50 Matchless to a commanding 500cc victory in the Vintage class at Sears Point International Raceway. Roper finished the race with a remarkable one minute, 28 second advantage over second place Craig McLean, who also was Matchless-mounted. The win in the Vintage 350cc class went to California's Bill Ojala on a Ducati, and the victor in the 250cc race was Mike Canepa, aboard an Aermacchi. The 500cc win was Roper's second Vintage victory in as many years at Sears Point Raceway; he also gave Team Obsolete the class victory during the Vintage race held in conjunction with last year's AMA National. Today's race marked the third time Vintage competition has been held in conjunction with an AMA race at Sears Point, and the competition was round two in the California Vintage Racing Club's 1986 Championship Vintag-e Series. The 10-lap Vintage race got underway shortly after I :00 p.m. with a twowave start that Roper easily led into turn one. Dave Walden came o££ the hnein secona place on a Mill-StationGarage Triumph, followed by Fred Mork and McLean. McLean made quick work of Walden and Mork, dropping them to third and fourth, respectively, on lap two, while Ojala (Mork Racing) and Canepa (10K Engin.eering) moved into the lead of their respective classes, while running fifth and sixth overall. By the fifth lap Roper held an amazing 50-second lead over McLean, who was working his way through lapped riders while running in second place. When the checkered flag dropped five la ps la ter, Roper roared across the finish line with almost 90 seconds on McLean, who was well in front of Walden and Mork. Canepa won the 250cc class by claiming fifth overall; 350cc winner Ojala crossed the finish line eighth overall. Each of the four top finishers in the 250 Vintage race had Avon Tire Company rubber mounted to their bikes. Winner Canepa and runner-up Scott Borem each finished the race on motorcycles equipped with Avon Track Formula tires. The Ducatis of Michael Green and Michele Bisson sported the same rubber. fiEITHDYsiiiTiENEmR'ACE&iiAFRElI Now, let's get serious about help for Keith. I I I Keith Dysert, a Torco employee, crashed in practice for a motocross at Perris Raceway, CA on January 25, 1986. Keith's injuries left him paralyzed from the chest down and confined to a wheelchair. His doctors doubt that he will ever walk again. Insurance covers most of the medical bills but not the cost of transportation or a specially equipped vehicle and this is where YOU can help. Once Keith's rehabilitation is completed he will need an "elevator van" with hand controls. Keith~s close friends' have organized this RAFFLE and 8ENEFIT MOTOCROSS to raise money to purchase a specially equipped van for him. The drawing will be held on Sunday, June 15, 1986 at the KEITH DYSERT BENEFIT HACE at DeAnza Cycle Park, CA. I Clip out the KEITH DYSERT BENEFIT RAFFLE ticket and mail it with your $5.00 donation or come out to DeAnza Cycle Park on June 15 where more tickets will be available. I I Spon-.d B,IM)( Sunday.
